In the meantime a convention of depnties was held inChrist Church to take measures for the organization ofthe church through the country, and the first GeneralConvention, consisting of deputies from seven of thethirteen States, was present. During all these daysand months of anxious planning, Dr. AVhite lived in ahouse at Front and Lombard, where St. Pett-rs Housenow stands, and here all the preliminary steps towardorganizing the American Church and preparing theprayer-book were taken.
