In 1831 his Grace was one of the stewards of theJockey Club, and he aided in revising many of therules laid down by them. Sixty-eight clauses werecarefully looked into and the whole code revised. A most important question to the sporting worldoccupied his Graces attention, namely, the repeal ofan obsolete Act of George II. (1740), which prohibitedany person from running more than one horse in arace, or from running any horse otherwise than in hisown name. On the 3rd of March, 1840, his Grace requested theirLordships in the House of Lords to permit the firstreading of the bill, which had been rendered necessaryby certain transactions of a vexed chara
