He regarded that effort as an experiment, and as likely to bothe only one he should ever make on the subject; yet, in 1868 his sec-ond edition was published, and notwithstanding the uninviting field inwhich much labor is required and but little pay is expected, he putsforth another edition for 1S69. Habits are much easier contracted thanreformed, and possibly it is more the force running through that groovewhich impels him on the line of Directories than the remunerationanticipated. Be that as it may, he has reason to regard his formerworks as having been at least partial successes; and, ever willing toturn a listening ear to the whisperings of hope, he concluded, if it is4iX»t exactly his duty, it may result to his interest (that is the gist of thowhole matter)
