Of the American fleet the Trentonand the Vandalia were wrecks beyond repair, whilethe Nipsic was high up on the beach. She was floatedout and was just able to hobble back to Honolulu, andis now at Puget Sound Navy Yard. This shocked the world into a sense of what wasbeing done in this distant part of the world, and sanerthought felt that all Samoa was not worth this loss oflife.
