98 THE TABERNACLE. In the preceding a general view of the Ta-bernacle, and of the surrounding court, withthe various implements of the Mosaic rites andceremonies, is introduced. The present sub-ject is the Tabernacle itself. It was aboutfifty-five feet long, eighteen feet wide, andeighteen feet high, being divided into twoparts. ( The first part was palled the HolyPlace, which was about thirty-seven feet longby eighteen wide. In this part were placedthe table of shew-bread, the golden candle-stick, and the golden altar of incense. Thesecond part was called the Holiest of Holies;this was eighteen feet long and as many broad,and contained the ark of the covenant. Thesecond part, called the Sanctuary, or Holiestof Holies, was divided from the holy place bya curtain or veil, of very rich cloth, whichhung on four pillars of shittim Wood overlaidwith plates of gold, their bases being of brass.On the west, north, and south sides, theTabernacle was enclosed by boards or planks 94 THE TABERNAC
