Description: [N.B. The explication for this plate is listed as II in the text.] Figure 1. Feinte femelle & oeuvée, qu'on nomme Couvreau à l'entrée de la Loire, & Feinte, ou grande Pucelle à l'embouchure de la Seine. Ces Feintes sont presque toujours plus grosses que les mâles; mais elles ne sont pas si bonnes à manger, (pag. 322 ). Figure 2. Grand Gai: il ne faut pas confondre ce Poisson avec le Hareng gai. Figure 3. Poisson un peu différent du Hareng, qu'on nomme Harengue. Ces deux Poissons, qui m'ont été envoyés de la côte de Colleville , ressemblent beaucoup aux Aloses, & sont peut-être de jeunes Aloses, (pag. 323). La Figure 4 est destinée à faire voir la forme des écailles aux approches des ailerons K L, ou G H. Figure 5. Comme on y a retranché l'aileron, la forme des écailles en est plus sensible. Figure 6. On y a représenté une Pêcherie à Aloses, établie à l'embouchure du Luy. Le Luy a son embouchure dans l'Adour: les Aloses se prennent dans des filets à manche ou des especes de verveux D E, F I, & les files de piquets G G, H H, sont destinées à déterminer les Poissons à suivre la route qui doit les conduire dans les filets, (pag. 332).
