It proved to be just such a test of the innatestrength of the National League as the great rebellion ofthe 60s in the south was of the strength of the Unionitself. In proportion to its size it was just as costly whileit lasted, but this time the League mastered its adversariesin such a way that it put an end forever to any futurerevolt of the kind. The final outcome of the base ballrevolution of 1890 was not only the utter defeat of theLeague secessionists, but also the death of the Leaguesold rival, the American Association.
