Pairs of pegs, U, are driven into theground in a wide circle around the windmilltower. To change the position of the wind-mill, the tail-beam is sprung up from betweena pair of these pegs, and the head is movedaround to any other pair of pegs.

930 FOR BOYS WHO DO THINGS (Aug., The arms of the windmill must be providedwith sails. These are strips of cloth 9 wideand 3-4 long, with the edges neatly hemmed.They are laid over the front face of thesweeps and are tacked to the arms C. Theyare provided with strings sewed to them attheir outer edges, by which they may be tiedto the pieces E, so as to cover the sweeps ofthe windmill. These sails must be furledwhen we do not wish the wind-wheel to re-volve, that is, they must be rolled up and tiedto the arms C. It will be well to do this everynight, lest a gale arise and wreck our mill. AMERICAN WINDMILL A MORE modern type of windmill is shown inFig. 12.
