Illustrative of this insolence of the mobswas a o^io-antic meeting: of the miners held at Danas Grove,a beautiful piece of woodland, a short distance from thecity. On August 4th, fully six thousand of these daring,reckless fellows proceeded to this grove, where they held ageneral indignation meeting, aired their grievances, andimpudently sent messengers to Mayor Loomis, and SheriffKirkindall, demanding to be informed why the militarywas at Wilkesbarre and vicinity, threatening peaceful work-ingmen like themselves.
