n of Captain Vinall. According to Howe, a grant of lands was made, 27Hen. VIII., to Stephen Ridge of Iford. To this grantthe seal of the Priory of Lewes was attached, having onone side the arms of De Warene, and on the other thoseof the Borough of Lewes, with the legend (sic), Sigillumcommune Prioris et conventus Monasterii Sancti Pancratiide Lewes. In 9th Eliz., Stephen ARidge became possessed ofconsiderable lands in Iford, probably that part of theManor of JSTorthese cum Iford, which was situated in thatparish. A Stephen ARidge, or Uridge, is mentioned ascompounding for knighthood. (Temp. Chas. I., xvi.S.A.C., 49).
