s not worth seeing. Here is what Ifound. Four Huguenot houses, all with histories. Not worthseeing, why, the two hours I spent there was the best part ofmy whole trip. Figure.I. Is a typical Huguenot house. With its long, slop-ing roof overhung with the branches of nearby trees it is ideal;makes one think of the year 1700, the year it was built. Thispicture alone repaid me for my trip. Figure 2. The Abraham Hasbrouck house is not so pictur-esque, but dates back to 1680. This house has not been mod-ernized since its erection. Figure 3. The Jean Hasbrouck house, built in 1712, is nowused as a memorial building to the old settlers; a monumentconsisting of a boulder of native rock, partly to be seen inthe picture at the right, containing the names of the originalsettlers is directly in front of this building. Figure 4. The Du Bois house, sometimes called the OldFort, was used as a fort, and two port holes are still to be seenin the end facing the street. These port holes are well pre- 212

Of the four housesthis is the only one that has been modernized. The piazza be-ing a recent addition. A couple of views along the Wallkill river near these oldhouses completed my photographic efforts in the town, and Iwas ready to start for home, highly gra.tified that I had some-thing worth preserving. So, no matter where you go, if you are an enthusiast andkeep your hobbies always in mind, you will find somethingworth while whether on business or pleasure bent.
