retiring compartm.ents, against the walls of which thenesting receptacles should be fixed. Being very active birds exerciseis necessary to keep them in vigorous health, therefore the larger theaviary the better for the birds. An enclosure which is only 3 feet wideand the height of which ranges from 5 ft. 5 in. to 6 ft. 6 in. hardly giveseven one pair a fair chance, and in my opinion three pairs at leastshould be kept together if one wishes to breed these birds successfully. When nesting stale bread soaked in water and then pressed as dryas possible in a cloth should be given in addition to the usual seeds ;the latter should consist of canary or canary and millet. I found thata slight admixture of oats was also acceptable. I bred Budgerigars some years ago, but in an indoor aviary, and thefoolish creatures selected the winter (their proper breeding season,I suppose) in which to increase and multij^ly. The result was that theyoung were more delicate than they otherwise would have been.

Short and incomplete as these notes are, I think they willshow that there is plenty of work to be done by an ornithologist inall these islands, whicli in the month of A))ril at all events swarm withsmall birds. Arriving at Palma, the capital of Mallorca, on April 1 my com-panion, Mr. H. Willford, and T went by train to the town of Puebla, and thence by dilif/ence to the port of Alcudia, which is in a large bayat the extreme north-east corner of the island. The country hereconsists of marshes with stunted pines, shrubs, and clumps of coarseground, and close to tlie sea-shore rough s
