ton,Bethlehem, etc., it was but natural to occupy the buildingat once, especially as its substantial character, in itself,made it an admirable place of defense and refuge. It stood about two hundred feet west by south fromMr. Robert Depuys present farm house, on the road lead-ing from the main road to the ferry. From here the mainroad runs in a westerly direction to Stroudsburg, five andone-half miles, and the Delaware Water Gap, and in anortheasterly direction to Bushkill, by the river, wherestood, formerly, Fort Hyndshaw. There was an oldspring on its site, and numerous relics have since been foundon the spot which corroborate the location given. As early as December, 1755, Captain Isaac Wayne wastemporarily on duty at the place, but was soon relieved byCaptain Nicholas Wetterholt, who remained in charge. This is what Commissary Jas.
