Rousseauwent away in a rage, which Ithought momentary, but which hasever since been increasing. Di-derot, Grimm, and myself tried, tono purpose, to bring him back ; heran too last for us. Hence aroseall those misfortunes, in wsfich wetook no share, except to lamentthem. He considered our concernas affected, and his misfortunes asour contrivance. He took it intohis head, that we were armingagainst him the Parliament, Ver-sailles, Geneva, Switzerland, Eng-land, all Europe.
