m-parative Zoology at Cambridge is a very complete speci-men of pterodactyl, which was believed by ProfessorAgassiz to be one of the most perfect illustrations of thegenus extant. It furnished him the means of correctingsome important errors, its special value being in the factthat the two sides are preserved upon correspondingplates, such details-as are not appreciable in one plate be-ing evident in the other. The restorations by Wagler and Goldfuss are proved bythis specimen to be imperfect or unnatural; that of theformer in regard to the bend of the articulations of thefore-arm, and the omission of the metacarpal joint; thatof the latter in the suppression of an entire joint of thehand, the metacarpal part of the whole hand having beenoverlooked. The number of fingers also appears to havebeen incorrectly stated, the specimen of Professor Agassizshowing only three short fingers in the hand and four per-fect ones in the foot. This is the case, at least, in the typeof P. longirostris.

METEOROLOGY AND TERRESTRIAL PHYSICS. 507 METEOROLOGY AND TERRESTRIAL PHYSICS. PIKES PEAK SIGNAL-STATION. The United States Signal Service station on the summitof Pikes Peak was formally dedicated on the nth ofOctober, 1873. It is a substantial one-story building, -withwalls two feet thick, and was erected at a cost of $2500The structure faces the east. The ceremonies of theoccasion consisted of brief and appropriate addresses, oneof which was made by Grace Greenwood, and the pre-sentation of a large national flag by a young lady ofColorado Springs. Mr. Boehmer, the observer of thestation, responded. When the Stars and Stripes wereflung to the breeze from the highest signal-station in theworld, three rousing cheers were given. A large numberof ladies and gentlemen were present, and the party re-mained at the summit overnight to enjoy from that loftypeak the spectacle of sunrise.
