ville, November13th. Willie Lee Smith, 13, and Willie Greene Day, 13, are doing work inDomestic Science, Columbia, S. C. Ruth Moore, 13, is teaching atWarsaw. Josephine Tillery, 13, and Ruth Davis, 13, are at RoanokeRapids. Inez Pittman is teaching at Oriental. The Mikado Synopsis of Opera. JSTanki-Poo, son of the Mikado, lias fled from his fathers court be-cause of the attention of Katisha. While disguised as a wanderingminstrel he falls in love with Yum-Yum, one of three pretty sisters,who is about to be married to Ko-Ko. An execution being demanded by the Mikado, according to law,ISTanki-Poo offers himself as a substitute for Ko-Ko, on condition thatYum-Yum be his bride for a month. Katisha arrives upon the scene and attempts to reveal the truth aboutISTanki-Poo, but is prevented by the three little maids. Complications arising from this plot are cleared up in the second actupon the arrival of the Mikado, and all ends well when he finds thatISTanki-Poo has gone and married Yum-Yum.

The two societies are well organized this year and are at work withearnestness that spells success. In the beginning of the years work each society made a general planof the whole year. This plan is worked through a system of committeeswhich means that every girl is on some committee and is brought intovital touch with some phase of the work during the year. The programcommittee plans the programs so as to have every girl in the programduring the year. The work of the Laniers this fall has consisted of semi-monthlyprograms.
