Peak is very beautiful. The road from Newcastle iscontinued to Hardwar Gap and down the Buff RiverValley to Buff Bay on the north side of the island. From Gordon Town the drive may be extended throughexquisite scenery to Mavis Bank, lying in a superb amphi-theatre of hills in the heart of the district which producesthe world-famous Blue Mountain coffee. The expedition to Blue Mountain Peak (7360 ft.) andback takes two days, and should only be undertaken bythose who can ride or care for hill-climbing on foot.Arrangements for the trip can be made at the offices of theJamaica Tourist Association. Tourists are recommendedto drive to Gordon Town or Mavis Bank early enough toarrive by 9 a.m. There they can be met by ponies, orderedovernight, and proceed by zigzag bridle-paths up themountain side past Petersfield coffee plantation, overGuava Ridge, through Mavis Bank, passing the church onthe left, down Green Valley, over the river, and thenturning abruptly to the left.
