About three hundred yards above where I got on-board, shestopped and captured four rebels who were in a bateau tryingtheir best to escape her, and who appeared to have been follow-ing us: but of that I am not certain. I reported to the captain,whose name was Young, that I was carrying dispatches for Gen.Sherman. He was delighted to hear from the interior, and wasready to afford me any assistance in his power.
