I am out for afight and can take any knocks that come: But theArgus refused to publish a word I said. I came 12,000miles to give you a message of hope and comfort, andI appeal to you to say whether three or four gentlemensitting in a board-room have a right to say to thepeople of Melbourne, You shall not listen to that mannor read one word of what he has to say/ v (Cries ofShame!) You, I am sure, resent being spoon-fed insuch a manner. * The audience showed in the mosthearty fashion that they did resent it, and they cheeredloudly when I pointed out that my remarks did notarise, as anyone could see by looking round, from anyfeeling on my part that my mission had failed to gainpopular support.
