English: Third Class Lounge on the 'Balmoral Castle' (1910) Interior of the passenger liner 'Balmoral Castle' (1910) showing the Third Class Lounge, on the Promenade Deck (a view from the starboard side, looking aft). Under the central skylight are stairs down to the Third Class Dining Saloon. Library cabinets, a piano, and doors through to the Third Class Smoking Room are visible in the background. The main public rooms on the 'Balmoral Castle' were designed by the architect William Flockhart (1854-1913). Flockhart trained at the Glasgow School of Art. After a year of study in London and Paris in 1878-79, he entered the office of William Wallace at 27a Old Bond Street, London. He set up his own company in 1881. His clients included Joseph Duveen, the Derwent Valley Water Board and the Union-Castle Mail Steamship Co Ltd. |
