France, (to which twenty or thirty are occasionally exported inone vessel,) from 15/. to 50/. ;—nor is this a branch of trade at all likelyto decline, the number of valuable horses continually increasing. The Mauritius and St. Helena are certain and increasing markets foralmost every species of the agricultural produce of the Cape, and to her theymust continue indebted for those useful supplies of corn, wine and oil, sheepand cattle, butter, soap, forage, and fruits, which the barrenness and limitedextent of the one, and the sugar cultivation of the other, preclude them fromfurnishing themselves. The sugar and coffee of the Brazils are occasionallyexchanged for the corn and wine of the Colony:—of the latter some car-goes have also been advantageously disposed of in Van Diemens Land andNew South Wales ; and, notwithstanding the efforts to produce wine in thelatter Colony, I think the Cape will be able for a long while hence to supplyit at a cheaper rate than it can be grown there.
