  • Significance: The Walnut Lane Bridge is the first prestressed concrete beam bridge in the United States. It is important as it provided the impetus for the development of design and construction methods for this type of structure in the U.S. It was the design of Professor Gustave Magnel, regarding as one of the world's leading authorities on concrete prestressing. The bridge was determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
