ome tomb of its founder and his Countess.Their effigies He on a high tomb, the lady to the rightof her husband, whose hand she holds. She wears along, close-fitting robe, laced down the bodice, and hasa long girdle, buckled in front and ornamented withthe four-leaved flower. Above this is a loose cloak,fastened by a brooch on either shoulder. She wearsthe stiff netted head-dress of the period, and her feetrest on a bull. Her husband is in bascinet and camail,shirt of mail, with jupon over it, bearing the arms ofBeauchamp. His arms are protected by brassarts, hislegs with greaves, and the feet covered with pointedsollerets. His feet rest on a bear, and on either sideof the tomb by the head-cushions are seated angels.About the sides of the tomb are thirty-six statuettes incusped panels, and below these is a series of plainshields, which from Dugdales figure seem formerly tohave been tinctured. They represent alternately maleand female members of the families of Beauchamp andMortimer. 98
