Description |
English: A complete copper-alloy hookpiece of a Hines Form B12 Anglo-Saxon sleeve or wrist clasp. This hookpiece consists of a bar with three evenly spaced lugs along its rear edge to allow it to be sewn onto a garment. The bar is rectangular in shape measuring 33mm in length and 7mm in width across the bar alone and 18mm in width across the hook-element and sewing lugs. It has two evenly spaced bands of moulded decoration on its slightly rounded front face, each one consisting of four transverse mouldings. The sewing lugs projecting from the rear edge are roughly oval in shape and each one measures 7mm by 6mm in size with a central circular sewing hole measuring 2mm in diameter. The hook-element is almost worn through on its outer edge, it is semi-circular in shape and measures 12mm bu 6mm externally and 5mm by 4mm internally. The back face of this hookpiece is flat and undecorated.Similar Hines Form B12 wrist clasps have been found concentrated in and around East Anglia (Hines 1993, 46-47, fig 90). |
