Merge with {{Rename}} and {{Move cat}} edit

As Evrik suggested, why dont't we merge {{Move}} (files), {{Rename}} (media), or even {{Move cat}} (categories) --W!B: (talk) 20:22, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

This looks not the right place to discuss this. --Foroa (talk) 08:40, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please do, I never remember to correct name of this template. Using #switch with the namespace should allow to switch between the contents for each namespace. -- 08:18, 16 June 2009 User:Docu
@W!B: and Docu: Note that {{move cat}} is actually a bot command that’s intended to be used on User:CommonsDelinker/commands. — ExE Boss (talk) 17:10, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Remove carets edit

Why not remove the carets from the example, rather than telling editors in a note to remove them? --Jonund (talk) 15:39, 14 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please feel free to "prettify" the layout. -- User:Docu at 15:44, 14 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Difficult edit

This template is difficult. I havent figure out how to fill where to move. Could it by easier? E.g. |to=category:dogs|reson=it is about dogs|date=today.--Juan de Vojníkov (talk) 07:35, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

External links don't work edit

If one external link is used in "reason" field of this template, the template doesn't work and the reason field appears to be blank. It's a serious deficiency, external sources give often relevant arguments to rename category. --ŠJů (talk) 15:03, 14 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bugs edit

1) If the date parameter is named "date", the template represents it as valid but categorises it as "date undefined", see an example. --ŠJů (talk) 16:05, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

2) Template {{Merge from}} categororizes into Category:Requested moves (date undefined) but the date cannot be defined and the category is not placed into Category:Requested moves (all). See here [1]--ŠJů (talk) 16:05, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

"to" parameter doesn't work (?) --Djadjko (talk) 03:33, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Phrasing of template edit

I'm little concerned that the current phrasing of the template may be non-neutral - it appears to presume that the page will be moved. It currently states "Upon reaching a clear consensus at [talk page] (or after two weeks if there are no objections), please remove this notice, replacing it with a category redirect or request further assistance at Category talk:Requested moves (if necessary)."

It would work better if that sentence is split in two. Something along the lines of: "Upon reaching a clear consensus (or after two weeks), please remove this notice. If consensus is to move, replace it with a category redirect or request further assistance". This phrasing is both clearer and doesn't assume it will end up being moved.--Nilfanion (talk) 21:05, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

edit by edit

I will revert this edit. If the template is misplaced it should redirect to rename where the files and pages are put in categories and the misplacement can be fixed. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 20:44, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Grammar mistake in German edit

The sentence "Begründung: Begründung fehlt. Bitte gebe eine Erklärung für die Verschiebung an,..." is wrong. Please replace "gebe" (subjunctive) with "gib" (imperative). --Eweht (talk) 23:02, 26 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Done. Since the page is not protected you could have done it yourself, too. --Leyo 08:51, 27 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Add reason into generated {{Move cat}} Bot command edit

{{Edit request}} Please add the reason into the generated bot command as the 3rd parameter. This would be done by changing text4 on Template:Move/i18n/en (and the coresponding other language pages). It seems that this requires a Commons:Translation administrators. JesseW (talk) 03:18, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Done. For the next time, Template:Move/i18n can be edited by anyone so you could do me a favour and implement the logic yourself. If finally needs a translation administrator to mark that version for translation but this is just clicking a link, reviewing the changes and pressing a button. -- Rillke(q?) 09:13, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
BTW, that's the real benefit of the Translate Extension: If you make changes to a properly administrated page affecting only constants like links and templates that were wisely enclosed in <tvar|>s, you can change the "master page", mark it for translation and all the translations will update automatically without the need of manually changing anything. -- Rillke(q?) 09:16, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I did try and do it myself -- I spent at least half an hour trying to understand which page I should change, without success. This was my first expierence with the Translate Extension -- it would be really nice if the documentation made it clearer that the proper page to change things was the i18n subpage. JesseW (talk) 02:44, 10 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Now, it should be clear. I admit that the translate extension is very confusing. There should be also a tab "edit translation template" but this is unlikely to happen because a prominent person sticks to their opinion that extraordinary knowledge is required to properly edit such a source page. -- Rillke(q?) 08:23, 10 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

"Onlyinclude" fails edit

This template is placed in categories Category:Requested moves (date undefined) and Category:Requested moves (all). Those category tags should be included only, the template itself should be not categorized so.

The category Category:Requested moves (all) contains also some lists of templates. --ŠJů (talk) 20:39, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

The categorization by date fails edit

Category:Requested moves (new) should contain pages which were tagged in last 7 days. However, the oldest case displayed in the category (Category:Bus stop Forellenwegwiedlung) has date tag 2013-10-13 and should be in Category:Requested moves (21+ days) now. Only the last 13 categories from the 79 displayed should be really in this category. However, even the pretended edit of the template didn't help to recategorize the content. --ŠJů (talk) 20:47, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please edit {{Move/i18n}} by adding "of" after "hundreds", i.e. "...Commons volunteers. Hundreds of proposals..." Nyttend (talk) 20:47, 2 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Categorization for invalid date edit

The template does not categorize "by date" the categories which have invalid time in the template. Examples: [2], [3]. --ŠJů (talk) 00:51, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Allow use in main (gallery) namespace edit

I tried to use this template on a page in the main namespace (Bloody Sunday) and got an error message. I don't see any reason for this. The text at the top of Category:Requested moves says "The categories (or other pages) listed here were tagged with {{Move}}." This suggests that it should be possible to request a move of a non-category page. --R'n'B (talk) 14:58, 11 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

This template causes errors edit

Category:Weather and Climate maps of Albania calls {{Move}} and displays "Lua error: too many expensive function calls." looking at the HTML source code one can see "Expensive parser function count: 501/500" message. Anybody knows how to fix it? --Jarekt (talk) 19:47, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Make bot command more convenient edit

Add |user={{subst:REVISIONUSER}}. Users no longer need to key in usernames by copying and pasting this onto User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands/Category moves. What do you think?--Roy17 (talk) 20:19, 19 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Return to "Move" page.
