¡Saludos! --Xavigivax 12:17, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not very good writing in English. I say that the changes that you made with the flags are not correct. You change the colors with others similars taking as source the coat of the municipality. For exemple, the flag of Rubió Image:Bandera de Rubió.svg is not purple, is pink... like it was before your changes. Please, don't change an insignia without references. Regards. --Xavigivax 21:41, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Image:Navia Spain.svg edit

I see you have reverted Image:Navia Spain.svg. Is the large white border part of the coat-of-arms? Without a note to explain, it will re-appear in Category:Images with borders. Finavon 12:14, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

It's the flag of Navia, not the coat of arms. I thought this was obvious, because I have put it in category of flags, not coat of arms. The coat of arms of Navia can be found in the coat of arms section.Nethunter 12:27, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. I, and the user marking it to be cropped, missed that. I have added a link to the coat of arms. There is also a gif version at Image:Escudo navia.gif. Finavon 15:49, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I'm curious as to why you reverted my upload of the above image—it was simply a facsimile of your version, but with simpler SVG code. Best, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 23:42, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

FIAV colours edit

I saw you re-uploading many of the flags I did, only with changed colours. May I ask you which colour table you use to spare you a bit of the hassle? --Johannes Rössel (talk) 09:19, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

The chart can be seen in this address: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiproyecto:Ilustraci%C3%B3n/Taller_de_Her%C3%A1ldica_y_Vexilolog%C3%ADa/Convenciones_para_banderas. It's in Spanish, but I translated most of it. Obviously the user has made lot of work with this, so I think it's an excellent standard for most of flags. I've changed flags made by other people too, so don't take it so personally... Nethunter (talk) 09:41, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

I didn't take it personally, but if you change the images anyway, I can use the ‚right‘ colours from the start. Only one thing I'd ask from you is that you make your colour changes in the source and not with Inkscape. Most of my flags are done by hand in a text editor, thus have much cleaner code than Inkscape ever produces.
Alright, I'll do that with your flags. I use Inkscape myself to make and edit files. Anyway, I'll be off for two weeks, so I won't be probably making any changes or upload any new files during that time. I can discuss of course, whenever I happen to be near computer, but that's it. Nethunter (talk) 10:10, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
I have an HTML version of the color table now on my own user page, might be convenient when needing to copy colors. Also I got a notice by a user of the Spanish Wikipedia who apparently was involved in creating that color table here who clarifies a bit on the term FIAV colors :-) --Johannes Rössel (talk) 14:11, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
I made a chart of my own while ago, I haven't just uploaded it. I read the note and it clarified things a little bit, since I used Babelfish to translate the text to English on that page. I don't know about you, but the term "FIAV colours" is short enough, although not quite correct to describe used colours. I see you've been busy during these two weeks. ;) One comment on flags you've created: the flag of Pego in Spain is different from what I have. In my version the stripes occupy half of the flag, not just one third. The file I have is originally from Vexilla Hispanica. Also, I don't know what program is best to use when I want to modify svg-code without Inkscape. I corrected the flag of Havelland using Notepad, but I don't find it very easy to use... Nethunter (talk) 14:30, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
As for Pego, I would assume your version to be correct, then. I am mostly doing vectorizations of flags already present on WP as raster images and thus mine look pretty much like the ones I modeled them after. So feel free to replace it. And as for editing SVGs – well, I use Far with colorer plugin to edit the source code but nearly any editor that has reasonable syntax highlighing capabilities should be sufficient to edit XML with ease. For most of my recent images I also use viewboxes and non-proportional aspect ratio conversions which Inkscape does not support. And Inkscape is barely stable here (Inkscape 0.46 on Windows Vista) and has its share of bugs that make editing images kinda not fun. Thus I resorted to “drawing” by hand with a text editor; for simple striped images this is relatively straightforward and easy and most shapes that are drawable with straight lines are not that hard, too. In my opinion it's faster that way (sometimes ... for some images I took a few hours, like Image:Chirality.svg). Most flags I do are under 1 KiB in size and Inkscape makes at least 3 KiB from that and (if not saved as Plain SVG) they do not validate. --Johannes Rössel (talk) 23:34, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Palette in inkscape edit

Hi Anu. I've seen that you have changed the colours of many flags with FIAV colours as we done ([1]). If you use Inkscape, we have posted the code for create a palette with FIAV colours that made your work easy. You can find the code here: [2]. The palette have the colors of this file: Image:Paleta final Taller.svg. The file must have .gpl extension (windows version). If you have problems to create it, ask me for help, I'll email you the file. See you! --Xavigivax (talk) 07:17, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello Xavigivax. Thanks for information, I'll try it later this week. I use Inkscape, so I guess it should work well. I was going to write to you or Hansen anyway about colours that are not at the moment defined in the colour chart. But I'll write later to you, since I have some other questions, too. Because I have just learned a little bit Spanish, it's sometimes very difficult to keep track what's going on... :) Nethunter (talk) 12:38, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Flags edit

Hey, yes, I feel happy seeing that colours are being used, and also for your work, creating and upgrading many flag files. Starting for the last your questions (how many municipal flags in Spain) I just can say its difficult to know, but considering that we are very localist, and there are around 8800 municipalities...and also the adoption of a flag changes depends on region's legislation...I would say that almost for sure there can be more of one or two thousands of them! For sure there is no official count or any web that could say it rightly. Next point, Cantabria. Firstly I could say it must be a hard job to look for that info in official spanish websites (and only in spanish!) so...bravo, you're doing a great job! By the way, I think thats the proper way to search for info, looking for the official descriptions. Two considerations: a) there is only 102 municipalities in Cantabria and, b) they are low populated. Because of that, maybe few municipalities have adopted a flag. Here I count more than 80 flags for Cantabria, but there is no reference about their use or adoption, maybe some of them are merely proposal flags. And a description is important because of the colours. Take for instance the flag of Camargo (third municipality of Cantabria by population). The flag of the article is clearly taken from that web (Vexilologia.es) and you can see, its blue, green and pink, showing yellow stars and the coat of arms. I search it in the Official Butlletin of Cantabria and luckily, it is (it seems by the web you can access only to information from as much as early 1999!). There, in the official text, it says:

With azul meaning blue, verde meaning green, and amarillo meaning yellow we can't have any difficulty. But the morado-carmesí is more complicated. That is not the pink of the article's flag, for sure (pink=rosa). Carmesí is a colour like maroon very used in spanish flags and morado is like a purpure. What we can do? Well, in the Taller we proposed RGBs for carmesí and for morado, so I think the proper solution is to mix them 50%-50%. We will get a different appereance of the flag, but by far, closest to legislation. I know all of this is a long work, but this is an example, usually description of the flags are not so stupidly complicated.

Because that descriptions shows complicated colours (we know vexilologically its not needed such complications...) the palette was left open in that way. I see you know how it works. You asked for verde oliva, rojo-morado and azul zafiro. I will study about what we can do for olive green and azul zafiro, to determinate if they would mind a different hue, brightness or both. For rojo-morado, I suggest to used again a mix 50%-50% (it will resemble a lot to the previous of the example, morado-carmesí, but...). I will add a note in our colour conventions page of the Taller about that mixed colours.

If you find difficulties about finding references, like the flags of Cantabria, don't worry, it will be well understood. In that cases, you can just "translate" bitmap flags to vectorial files, resembling colours to their closest shades of the palette. Finally and again, thank you for your great job :) --HansenBCN (talk) 15:55, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey Anu, I bring some answers. For the sapphire blue (azul zafiro) I bet more for a dark blue (B++). As its shown in the article, most of them shows a dark stone. For the olive green (verde oliva) I think solution comes mixing colors, that is, creating a new colour category. As much as i've can seen many flags naming that color shows a simply green flag. I can only seen, via google, that flags in south-american municipalities, but they are known for their wrong use of applied heradry or vexilology. So I would like to know, if you remember, in what andalusian municipality did you read that description :) Anyway, by creating a new 'color' i think that mixing our yellow and green is the best choice. I've added it, tell me how you see it. Also i tried in green+gold, but as in someway gold is a derivative color, I prefer to create them from the basic colours. I think the result colour is a good example for an olive green :) --HansenBCN (talk) 18:35, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: Palette edit

  • Atlas: Anybody can put his creattions, but I recommend you that you use your own user, not an IP. If you want, you can add your user as a proyect member.[3]
  • File format:The file format that we use and we demand is the svg format. We also demand the reference to the description -> Verifiability.
  • Colours: We use the FIAV colours that you known, except the cases that the description use a specific colour descriving his value. (the excpetions)
  • Sice: We decide the size taking as a base 500px of height. Then a flag 1:1 will be 500x500 px, 1:2 500x1000 px and the most usuals: 2:3 500x750.
  • Templates and categories: A flag is an official symbol, for this reason, we would use the template {{insignia}} in the Licensing section. We would inform the categories "SVG flags - Spain" and "Flags of municipalities of xxxxxx" and also the category of the municipality if exists.
  • Coats of arms in flags: If it's not described, the COA would be the 50% of the flag's height.

Dehesas de Guadix: I don't know that you create a flag before. I was revising the article in the Spanish wikipedia and I don't see the flag. Simply I don't search it in commons.

And finally, congratulations with your work with the Spanish flags without knowledge of Spanish language! it's amazing. Only a question, why do you are interested in the flags of Spain? --Xavigivax (talk) 21:00, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

hahahahahaha :) all elements are in good "position" may be is real that a lot of sun hours at summer and few sunny hours, almost all the day in the darkness at winter make you a little crazy!. Ok "complicated person", here I am for any help that you need. If you want to do a flag and don't have the COA, may be I could help you. See you! --Xavigivax (talk) 22:38, 23 September 2008 (UTC) P.S. Yes, the on-line traductions and some normal traductions are very odd. My old dvd player had the original menu in English with a windows with two buttons: OK and Finnish. The traslation in Spanish were "Aceptar"-> Well done and "Finlandés"->Bad traduction. Finlandés is the traduction of Suomi en Spanish, when the correct traduction is "Finalizar", the action to end something... Imagine my face when the configurations windows only had two buttons -> OK and Suomi... it has not sense.

Dutch municipality flags edit

With all respect, it seems that Vexilla-mundi bases its colours on the personal interpretations of local web site builders and civil servants of the official colours, which are, in all cases with the exceptions of some of the newest flags, the basic heraldic colours. The official underlying documents at the "Hogeraad van Adel" state those basic colours, and any interpretation of the colours is the local mayor's POV. If the next mayor has another colour scheme for his house, the interpretation might change. Any Dutch municipality flag showing a specific tone, is just an interpretation of the heraldic colours (with the exception of some flags showing fancy logos, but one might question how official those flags are, since they are not approved by the HvA) - Quistnix (talk) 18:04, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

The official organization Hogeraad van Adel refers to the shipmate website at the bottom of their page on flags, stating that that site has a good overview of all Dutch municipality flags. Why would they do that if there was a major issue with that site? - Quistnix (talk) 21:33, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, they have all flags, I agree. But like they say, it's just "an overview". I mean, the images are small and bad quality, so with my standards, it's just a basic source. If they would tell more information about flags (like the official descriptions), then it would be better. Maybe HvA just don't know any other site about Dutch flags? Nethunter (talk) 20:58, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps. But the HvA, being the Dutch only authority on official heraldic issues, defines the descriptions of the flags, and if there was something wrong with the flags, they would not link to that site. - Quistnix (talk) 18:57, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Good job! edit

I want just to say that, it's a nice job what you are doing about flags of spanish municipalities :) - --HansenBCN (talk) 18:26, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
