Hi. Can you add an Commons:Image copyright tags to your images? I have tagged them as unverified for now. Thanks -- Chris 73 03:53, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. The commons can accept only images that are known to be free, i.e. either public domain, GFDL, CreativeCommons, or a small list of other copyright statuses (which are still under discussion). If the image does not have a copyright tag on the wiki it came from, then i fear we cannot use it here. If possible, please upload only images with known and free copyrights. Also, if you copy an image from another wiki, could you add an interwiki link using [[de:Bild:Mordovia.png]] on Editing Image:MordoviaFlag.png? This one says on its source that it is Public domain, so we can keep it, and I just added the PD tag. Also, try to include all the information available on the source page. Thanks! -- Chris 73 05:27, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for the comments. I'll start doing just that. I'm still kind of new to the Commons concept, but you clarified most of my concerns. Thanks again.—Ezhiki 17:33, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks for listening, and Happy Editing -- Chris 73 03:03, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Russian time zones and other images edit

Would be very nice if you set not only licences, but categories for images as well. It will help a lot for others, because otherwise nobody knows that you uploaded such nice images :). Thank you. MaxiMaxiMax 03:42, 13 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, Max, but since I'm not very active here, I am not very knowledgeable about the cats used on Commons. I will keep it in mind, though, and will be asking you questions when I don't know :)—Ezhiki 17:35, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Locator maps edit

See Category:Locator maps of cities in Russia and please add maps of other locations of cities to it if you find any. May be, if you are so kind you can convert some of them to 2007-01 format (with this suffix as well). BTW, since you are not so active here - you can setup notification about changes in your watchlist and discussion page in your user settings. MaxiMaxiMax 07:26, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the note, Max. I'll convert the maps that need to be converted.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 20:44, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
There are also some maps, like Image:NewSiberianIslands.png, Image:Russia Severnaya Zemlya.png. I think, to not update such maps constantly it's simple to remove administrative borders from them. MaxiMaxiMax 05:41, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yup, it makes sense to remove administrative borders from the maps that have a different purpose, like these two.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 13:18, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
You don't have to copy your answers to my page (same in en:) :) If I tell you something I watch for your answer. MaxiMaxiMax 13:42, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maps for 2007-01 edit

I found a map which I don't know how to fix: Image:Krais of Russia.png, may be you can do it? MaxiMaxiMax 03:40, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Max! I am sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I saw your message, but I did not have time to fix the map at the time, and later, to my shame, I forgot all about it. Anyway, I tried to fix the map the best I could (I'm just an amateur, unfortunately; so this was a little over my head). You can review the ready product at Image:Krais of Russia.png (I uploaded the new version over the old one). Please let me know if I missed anything. Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 17:07, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's a good news that you're going to update the maps following another merger. Conscious 19:15, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

SVG-maps of Russian subjects edit

Two weeks ago I created svg-maps of all the Russian federal subjects (in Category:Maps of Russian federal subjects) based on the ones User:CrazyPhunk made. But I was wondering why the png-maps are still in use on the English wikipedia.

Do you think the choice of colours is not right? If so, then I could try to change the colour of this maps into ones that better fit the preferences. I just need to know the colour values (between #ffffff and #000000) to change them with en:inkscape. For reference I uploaded a version with the old colours at Image:RussiaArkhangelskOblast2007-07 (temp).svg. If that one is preferred, I can change the current svg-ones to that colour sceme (pink: #FFCCCC and red) --Hardscarf 15:08, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't know about others, but the reason why I didn't use the svg maps was because I was not aware you made the whole set :) Of course, feel free to replace existing pngs with the svgs. As for the colors, I, honestly, don't care either way. Pink was the color used by Morwen on her very first map of Russia, so I guess it just carried over to other maps. I really don't see a good reason to change the colors of your svgs to pink just so they match the old versions; it'd be a waste of time, in my opinion. I trust if someone has a problem with new colors, they'll let you know :)
All in all, thanks for the nice set of svgs! It's about time someone cared to convert these maps. I also hope you are going to stick around to update them in future, because I have no experience with vector graphics whatsoever :) Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 15:31, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
No thanks for me: it was user CrazyPhunk who created them in the first place. All I did was change some settings in them to adapt them. I tried inkscape for a hour or two and it seems to be quite easy in use (but that is my experience of course). But I have currently no plans to leave the wiki, don't worry ;) --Hardscarf 18:29, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Statue of Ferdinand Foch edit

Hi! I had to delete Image:Ferdinand Foch Monument.jpg that you had uploaded on Commons: the monument was erected in 1951 by Robert Wlérick and Raymond Martin. It's still protected by copyright. Unfortunately, there's no freedom of panorama in France. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 16:01, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

You mean I couldn't post a picture of a sculpture I myself took??!! Wow! So, by the same account, I would be unable to post any pictures of, say, works displayed in the Pompidou Center because they are very likely to be under copyright protection?—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:56, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes :-( It's called derivative works. If the depicted work is still copyrighted, only the author can authorize the representation of it. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 17:01, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Crap, this is the most ridiculous copyright restriction I've seen by far! Anyway, thanks for the explanation. It is sad but educational.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 20:29, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re the portrait of Eiffel: it's a work by Auguste Bourdelle, who died in 1919. The work is now in the public domain, so it's OK. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 07:27, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Modern sculpture edit

Hi, Ezhiki I'm a contributor since a few month to Wikimedia Commons and have problems with administrators about "freedom of panorama" for many, many images I have uploaded. France, Italy and the USA (and some more) have indeed the most ridiculous laws on copyright matters. Not only images taken in the Pompidou Center are involved (Art inside Museums etc.), which I can understand, but the matter gets worser when you think of art (i.e. sculptures and buildings/architecture) in the public space. In the countries I mentioned not even images from these objects (even when you took them yourself) are allowed on Wikimedia Commons, because there is NO FREEDOM OF PANORAMA. You can publish your images on all websites yoy like but not on Wikimedia. Luckily there are so many countries where the copyright rules are not so strict (the greater part of Europe, Canada, Australia and so on). I too feel sad., but I try to go on with my contributions with images from those countries and ask you to do the same. An encyclopedia badly needs illustrations in the otherwise very dull articles on art. Good luck--Gerardus 07:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please help replace this outdated license edit

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

Извиняюсь за поздний ответ; я тут нечастый гость. Да и ответа у меня нет :) Я на эти категории смотрю недобрым глазом уже не первый год, но впутываться в упорядочение материала ещё и на Commons категорически отказываюсь. Eventually, hopefully, these will be straightened out.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 19:23, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

You Commons people are lazy as fuck. It would have taken you less time to track where the image came from than to write the note above. As it stands, the image is out of date and is no longer used where I intended it to be used, so do whatever.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:39, 9 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
