Filemover and Autopatrolled edit

I've made you a filemover and given you the autopatrolled right. I've done most of the moves on the hurricane pics, and I was actually thinking of offering you the filemover right, so why not? INeverCry 22:37, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Deleted file edit

As discussed over IRC, please let me know when the license at the video is changed, and I will undelete it for you. Sven Manguard Wha? 15:12, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I was differed to the MTA General Counsel, Mr. Lester Freundlich, but no reply has come for a month now, so I'm dropping it. Hurricanefan24 (talk) 20:20, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Rain diagrams edit

I have rejected the speedy deletion tags you placed on the rain diagrams. It is not Commons place to enforce one project's standards across all projects; enforcement can be done on a project by project basis. Since other projects are using the images, just up and deleting them and redirecting to different images would be bad practice. Sven Manguard Wha? 03:57, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Acknowledged; thanks. Hurricanefan24 (talk) 20:20, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open edit

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Hurricane images edit

Hi,

Good initiative to uniformly naming the rainfall images for tropical cyclones. Please redo the links to the related articles in other wikis as the redirect does not works to show theses images.

Thanks,

Pierre cb (talk) 23:45, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey there,
Thanks for the message — I think I set CommonsDelinker to replace them...though the redirects won't work. Lemme see. HF (talk) 14:33, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, I did a quick check through my last 500 or so edits and found two unused files. Could you specify which pages/images are having problems please? Thanks. HF (talk) 14:37, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
The ones I know of because I have them on my follow lists in Commons and wiki :
It seems CommonsDelinker is not keeping up with you. Pierre cb (talk) 03:38, 26 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
...that's odd. I'll certainly be checking these interwikis just in case. I'll take it up with the operator as well. Thanks for linking them. HF (talk) 11:22, 26 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've taken a look on frwiki to see CDelinker's contributions, and it looks like it took about an hour (~4:30) after the requests were cleared (at 3:22 UTC) to fix links like here. It looks like the bot is a bit slow, but would fix images eventually. Your edit was just around that time (4:31), so the bot would probably have gotten around to fix it. Thanks for bringing it up, btw. (But you're right in a way – CommonsDelinker is awfully slow sometimes...don't let Bryan read this... :P) HF (talk) 11:35, 26 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the note you left for me on the change on images I'm related. However, you asked to delete File:Michael2000rain.gif because of it is supposed to be a older version of the non existant File:Michael 2000 rainfall.gif. Did you forgot to upload ? I've uploaded Michael2000rain.gif to that name before any administrator deletion. Pierre cb (talk) 01:13, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Whoa, I keep making a lot of mistakes. :( Re Michael: I've removed the tag, moved it, and re-formatted it as well with the French description. Thanks for pointing this out...I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise. :) HF (talk) 01:32, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry but I made a mistake. I uploaded a version of the file under a wrong name (File:20120416045353!Michael2000rain.gif) by mistake and asked to rename it to Michael 2000 rainfall.gif before I noticed you did. Mea culpa!!! Do you know what I should do ?
Don't worry – I've tagged it for deletion as a duplicate, if you don't mind. :) HF (talk) 01:46, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Just for your information the deletion you ask for image could cause some problem with CommonsDelinker if the switch of image is not done before the removal (Example). Pierre cb (talk) 04:40, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm aware of that and somewhat annoyed by it as well. Hm, I'll probably ask the bot operator about it. HF (talk) 11:30, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Image speedy deletions edit

Hi HF. The problem here is that speedy deletions are generally reserved for completely unquestionable cases. In this situation, the two files are different enough that this is not the case. In any case, can you not see where some users might prefer the contour map over the solid color map? While various WP projects may prefer one style over another, you have to realise Commons does not exist just for supplying sister projects with media files. These files are used by others as well. While having exact duplicates of images is not desired, there is nothing wrong with showing data in different formats, which is what these two files do. I have no issue with you standardising file names and layouts for ease of use on the various projects, but don't wipe out alternate formats at the same time. I strongly request that you remove these speedy deletion templates. Huntster (t @ c) 02:33, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Image edit

The image shows a true color image of the South China Sea with more interesting Phenomena with a TD and clouds in it.--Earth100 (talk) 11:58, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

It looks more interesting than other tropical depressions, with it's exposed center and patches of thunderclouds. Besides it shows the whole South China Sea, and the unusually cloud free southern china!--Earth100 (talk) 02:38, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
