The source is under the image! This image is under Creative Commons license, which means I can freely adapt or modify it for non-commercial purposes.--Me ne frego (talk) 22:04, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes I know, but non-commercial use is not allowed on Commons. Sorry for that. Moros y Cristianos 22:07, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Is this some sort of provocation? There is plenty of these maps on Commons. Take a look. I even quoted one under "other versions".--Me ne frego (talk) 22:18, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
the site states: Hydrology and Earth Systems Sciences is published under a Creative Commons Attribution, NonCommercial and ShareAlike License. (my emphasis). This license is not allowed on Commons so it will be deleted soon. Nothing I can do about it. Moros y Cristianos 22:25, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't agree. This user got a permission by e-mail that he can use  . It is from the same source as mine, I merely transferred it from svg to png and made it bigger.--Me ne frego (talk) 22:33, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
OK, then get permission thru OTRS. And BTW, svg is the preferred format for these files, png is an unfortunate choice. Moros y Cristianos 22:35, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately this SVG file was too complex and all web browsers displayed it wrongly. I had to save it as PNG.--Me ne frego (talk) 22:40, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yamaha's images

You've marked images of Yamaha, that I've putted on the Wikimedia by official autorisation of Yamaha Music, as an employee (for creation of Yamaha Music wiki-page). Please, remove your notice for deletion.

Thank you for your images. If you are authorized by Yahama to upload these images, then please confirm using the OTRS system. regards. Moros y Cristianos 14:41, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Does it mean, that I should send all our images for this article to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org from my work mailbox with text, that I, as official representative of Yamaha allow to use this pictures on Wikimedia, and that's all? Should I do something else? Could you please hold deletion of all my pictures for, at least 3 days? Thanx in advance. BTW, there's 2/3 of the draft of future wiki-page: http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A3%D1%87%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%82%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA:Mielenyvin/Yamaha

You should use the instructions at Commons:OTRS/ru and then you can replace the deletion template on the files with {{subst:OP}} to add a dated OTRS pending notification. It is then upto the OTRS-team to decide if the e-mail is sufficient. I did this for you for your last file, but you still have to send the e-mail. In some cases a single mail may suffice for multiple files. I have to caution you however that being an employee is generally not the same as being the copyright holder. Cheers. Julia Pevzner

Hi, I realy don't know what you want. I got the picture from Julia Pevzner by mail and I got Yosi Chevker, the photographer, permission by mail, and I sent it to commons.

I got permissions to all the pictures I upload from the copyrights owners, and I sent the permissions to wikipedia, or in some cases I'm the photographer. Tzahy Lerner (talk) 06:46, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Deleting files created by uploader

Hello. Why did you delete files File:103-vdv-vitebsk-01.jpg and File:103-vdv-vitebsk-02.jpg? User:Sliverrebel is a Belarusian press photographer who willed to upload photos taken by himself to Wikimedia Commons. What is wrong with that? Wizardist (talk) 20:11, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey, Moros y Christianos. Would you mind telling me what you use to see if photos are copyrighted? I used Tineye but that is very helpful. Some of the photos I looked at a few minutes from the latest files don't show up on Tineye, but then I saw you marked them as copyvio so I was wondering how you found the sources. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give. Cheers! :D Alex T. (talk) 21:53, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Alex. Tineye is the first line, second is Google image with variations on the name and/or description. It is a bit of detective work most of the times. It is not always possible to find the original copy. But if it is a duck then no permission will likely flush it. Cheers. --Moros y Cristianos 22:00, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ah, okay. Thanks for the help!

File:20 Ghanaians.jpg

Hi, Moros y Cristianos, I want to let you know that I have created the File:20 Ghanaians.jpg entirely by myself using the Wikimedia commons images shown in the description template. The proof of where the images have come from and the copyright holders (authors) and licences of the images have also been noted. All images are Wikimedia commons images and sourced to there Wikimedia locations (URL link) for verifiablity. Please can you tell me how the File:20 Ghanaians.jpg is lacking a source. What type of source is it you are talking about. See File:32 Britons.png for the same type of Montage of ethnic group. I don't understand what is wrong. I created and I'am using the image for the article on Wikipedia entitled "Ghanaian people". MarkMysoe (talk) 01:28, 23 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Tagging Unfree Flickr Files

Thank you for helping find copyright violations. When tagging images from Flickr as copyright violations please use {{Unfree Flickr file}} rather than {{Copyvio}} so that the uploader is given the opportunity to change the license on Flickr. MorganKevinJ(talk) 21:04, 24 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sure will do. Cheers. Moros y Cristianos 21:46, 24 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the tag you placed on the file as its permission is that if it was ever copyrighted, the copyright was not renewed, as per a search at the US Copyright Office online search which is described on the file's page. Am not seeing why it would need OTRS permission as any copyright was allowed to expire by the publisher. We hope (talk) 04:47, 21 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

This would be great. (I did not input the mail into OTRS, i'm not @ the level of user-knowledge to do so, I only help others to upload there stuff for wiki-artikels). --Airwave2k2 (talk) 08:08, 3 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

File:Scallop Diagram.jpg

Hi, there. You recently tagged an image I uploaded, Scallop Diagram.jpg, as lacking author and source information and subject to removal/ deletion from the Wikimedia website after seven days if this information is not provided. I thought I was clear on the upload form, but let me reiterate: I am the author, I am the source, the image is my own work which I have licensed under Creative Commons Share Alike 3.0 I am flattered, however, that you have called this into question-- I have actually been hoping one of my Wikimedia-related creations would someday be of sufficient quality to warrant such doubts. But there is no other source: I spent several days studying a series of 5 or 6 different reasonably-high-quality anatomical photographs and drawings spanning the last 75 years of research on scallop anatomy, and then I created this image de novo based on the information I collected-- if you conduct an Internet image search on scallop anatomy, you will find none that look very much like mine other than that the parts are more or less all in the same places (scallops, in the end, being scallops, of course, and the arrangement and position of organs not subject to claims of copyright). At any rate, how do you propose we proceed? Please advise. Thank you! KDS444 (talk) 00:26, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Several days have passed now and no word from you. I have posted my concern over this tag at the Commons Village Pump and another editor has now reviewed the situation and decided to remove the tag in question. Would have preferred to have heard from you, but all is well that ends well, I guess. KDS444 (talk) 13:02, 29 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to answer so belatedly. I was not on Commons for several months. I'm glad the problem was solved. Your images are great. Regards. Moros y Cristianos 13:39, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Moros

Our very valuable contributor, Ramon FVelasquez, has limited access to computers in general in his home country. A number of editors and admins are aware of this, and are assisting by marking the images for rotation so that Ramon can do what he does best, that is, spend a not insignificant amount of money and effort to travel from town to town and photographically document the landmarks for us. If you have time, please assist marking the images for the bot, if you don't have time, that's ok, people are working on it. Penyulap 08:56, 21 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Every contributor is very valuable. Limited access is no issue here. It is a matter of responsibility cleaning up after your own. It is just a press of a few keys but that's not something you want other people to do for you. I noticed that Ramon will do the rest of his rotations himself, so that's fine. Moros y Cristianos 09:33, 21 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Of course you are right, I'm sorry, I just get a little over-protective of newbies sometimes. Penyulap 09:58, 21 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Deleted Photo

File:Gilbert LaFreniere.jpg

Sorry, I cant find our conversation thread from yesterday... to summarize...

Apparently this image was deleted due to Flickr usage by another. However, this photo is indeed the property of subject's family, specifically Pamela LaFreniere, who has authorized its use on Wikimedia. OTRS permission Ticket#2013060310004473. Please restore the image. sblafren@yahoo.com--Sblafren (talk) 16:06, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Photo originated in May 2007, Canon non-digital camera, was scanned and re-sized by owner on 12/24/07 and was uploaded to owner's personal blog on that same date. One can right click and view properties of the photo on some systems to see details for confirmation. Sometime in 2009 the author gave a presentation at Oregon State University. At that time an OSU staff or intern uploaded the photo to their Flickr photostream. However, the photo remains the property of the author. Flickr, via Yahoo, has been notified of the infringement. OSU, via their Help Desk, has been notified of the conflict and asked to remove the photo.

Per email reply from the university... the "offending" photo has been removed from their Flickr feed. Please restore the media. I will also upload a slightly better quality image. Thanks!

Moros would you agree to undelete the image now? Or should I reupload it, do I resubmit the OTRS permission letter again or add the old ticket number to the new image? Or...? Thanks!

Hmm. From my side everything looks fine. However, I'm not an admin so I cannot undelete your file (I didn't delete it in the first place, I just indicated a potential problem). I'm sure things will work out ok from now, just have a little patience. I would reupload the file (highest available resolution) under the same name, add {{subst:OP}} and contact an OTRS member to confirm the ticket. AFAIK that should do the trick. Kind regards. Dear Moros y Christianos,

I am writing some articles in Wikipedia Spanish about Power generation companies in Spain. I asked Guascor Power for permission to use their pictures and they agreeded, so I am trying to use them in my article´s draft. There seems to be some kind of copyright problems with the pictures, but I am not a copyright savvy.

Would appreciate any help in how should I use these pictures (that of course they already exist in Guascor´s website.

Kind regards,
