Changing the subject of an image by a crop...

You cropped File:Georges en Claude Pompidou (1969).jpg, excluding two persons from that image. However the image was amongst others used to illustrate the article about the wife of Georges Pompidou. So cropping her out makes the image utterly meaningless. I notice you like to crop images. Please, upload crops as different images, to prevent errors like this. Hi Rufus46, there is not really any reason for this cropping, if not perhaps to make the picture a little less rectangular (cosmetic enough). CropTool

Hello
Please stop modifying downloads by other users with CropTool. This is not a useful contribution - reduce the quality of images. For good processing you need to use more professional editors via GIMP, Photoshop etc. You can unlimited times crop / modify self uploads with CropTool, but please do not create poor versions of uploads by other contributers.
Some of your modifications could be reverted.

Hi George Chernilevsky, I must say that I'm quite surprised by your message. I try to make sure that my cropings have the least impact on other users' files. For basic photos, I create a new file (so there is no risk of conflict). For images on a white/solid color background, no valid reason not to retouch the file itself (only change: we see better the concerned element). Do you have one (or more) specific example where I actually « reduce the quality of images »? If that's the case, then of course I'll be careful for next time. --Ellicrum _{{bablute [...]}} 16:37, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Firstly, JPG (JPEG) is a lossy image format. Each edit is as follows:
- unpacking the image;
- image processing;
- packaging with partial loss of image quality.
Therefore, any JPG editing always gets a quality loss. No need to edit the image if there is no importantly need for this.
Secondly, very close cropping often spoils the composition.
Thirdly, very close cropping create some problems for the printing industry. For example, for printing postage stamps or postcards when the publisher needs to create some proportions of height and width. After all, we create information for free access and our consumers can use images as they please, while respecting free licenses.
I hope i was able to persuade you from excessive enthusiasm with CropTool.

I didn't know this information about the loss of quality that the JPG format produces. Yet I have never had this impression, but no reason not to believe you (after all, you still have 10 years of seniority here and the status of administrator). З 1 по 31 травня триває сьомий конкурс «Вікі любить Землю» (Wiki Loves Earth), метою якого є фотографування пам'яток природи. Протягом травня ви можете завантажувати власні фото природно-заповідного фонду України та змагатися за призи. Зі списками пам'яток природи України можна ознайомитися тут. Приєднуйтеся!

Цього року є деякі зміни в правилах, зокрема:

• фотографії пам'яток, які на момент початку конкурсу не мали жодної ілюстрації на Вікісховищі або у Вікіпедії, отримують коефіцієнт 10 в кількісній номінації. Якщо ви маєте фото ще не проілюстрованих пам'яток — це збільшить ваші шанси на перемогу;
• окрема спецномінація для аерофотозйомки (фото з дронів тощо).

1 вересня вже традиційно стартує українська частина міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки»! До кінця вересня Ви можете подавати власні фото пам'яток історико-культурної спадщини України — і змагатися за призи. Більше про те, як взяти участь, можна прочитати за посиланням.

Із детальними правилами можна ознайомитися тут. Для тих, хто раніше уже брав участь у конкурсі — зауважте, що цього року є певні зміни:

• у номінації «Найкраще фото» — файли повинні мати не менше 4 МПкс;
• у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток» — оцінка фотографії пам'ятки складається із суми базового та додаткових балів (в останній враховується чи ця пам'ятка вже фотографувалася іншими авторами та скільки фотографій пам'яток уже є з цього населеного пункту);

Нагадаємо, що фотографії автоматично беруть участь у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток»; однак для того, щоб фото позмагалося у номінації «Найкраще фото», потрібно підтвердити це при завантаженні.

Також цього року маємо спецномінації «Єврейська спадщина» та «Млини». Також окремо відзначатимуться найкращі відео із пам'ятками.

Hi Charlesjsharp, I'm a little surprised by your remark since it's not a cropping of the file that you had uploaded yourself but a brand new file resulting from your work: your upload has therefore not been changed. In addition, this cropping mentions in black and white that you are the author of the original photo. Finally, the "Quality images" label is the privilege of the original image and not of derived files. Organizers of the contest are holding a survey for participants to decide on whether to hold the contest this year — and when to do it. It seems that holding Ukrainian Wiki Loves Earth within traditional dates in May would not be reasonable because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, we can hold the contest in June or July. Wiki Loves Earth 2020 in Russia is open!

Здравствуйте! с 1 по 30 июня проходит российская часть международного фотоконкурса "Вики любит Землю". Hi Krg, please excuse me for this incomplete and faulty author credit, which didn't indeed mention your authorship for the original file (your change is obviously fully justified). I occasionally extract files from other images already posted on Commons and mentioning the original author seems self-evident to me. It's clear that I had forgotten this step when importing the file concerning the leech. Привіт!

З 1 по 30 вересня вже традиційно пройде українська частина міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки»! На конкурс можна подавати власні фото пам'яток історико-культурної спадщини України — і змагатися за призи. Більше можна прочитати за посиланням.

Радимо ознайомитися із детальними правилами, а також із відповідями на часті питання. З найважливіших змін цього року:

• у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток» — збільшився додатковий бал за фотографії пам'яток (якщо світлин пам'ятки раніше не було завантажено, то можна отримати 21 бал.

Нагадаємо, що всі фотографії автоматично беруть участь у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток»; однак для того, щоб фото позмагалося у номінації «Найкраще фото», потрібно підтвердити це при завантаженні.

Цього року теж є спецномінації «Єврейська спадщина», «Млини» та «Відео». Також є спеціальна номінація від проєкту «Via Regia Ukraine» — у ній автоматично беруть участь світлини всіх пам’яток міст України, через які пролягає Via Regia — Дубно, Рівне, Острог, Львів, Броди, Городок (Львівська область), Луцьк, Володимир-Волинський, Радомишль, Житомир та Київ. Цього року у Завантажувачі не передбачено окремих параметрів для спецномінацій — світлини зараховуватимуться автоматично з відповідних списків.

«Вікі любить Землю» 2021 в Україні пройде з 1 по 30 червня

Доброго дня!

Ви брали участь у конкурсі «Вікі любить Землю» в Україні раніше, тож приносимо вам важливу новину — цього року конкурс відбудеться протягом червня.

Як і в попередні роки, долучитися до змагання можуть усі охочі — як професійні фотографи, так і аматори. Головне, щоб ви любили Землю і розділяли ідею конкурсу — представити природно-заповідні території України за допомогою світлин під вільними ліцензіями. У Вікіпедії та Вікісховищі конкурсні фото будуть доступні тисячам людей.

Загальний формат конкурсу буде таким же, як у минулі роки. Протягом травня ми опублікуємо детальні умови та можливості для участі у спеціальних номінацій. Стежте за новинами проєкту у Фейсбуці, Інстаграмі або у блозі. Також ключова інформація буде з'являтися на сторінці у Вікісховищі.

Під час зйомок у заповідних територіях просимо дотримуватися правил їх відвідування і встановлених карантинних обмежень. Найважливіші правила ми зібрали тут.

З 1 по 30 вересня вже традиційно пройде українська частина міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки»! В Україні цей конкурс пройде вже вдесяте. На конкурс можна подавати власні фото пам'яток історико-культурної спадщини України — і змагатися за призи. Більше можна прочитати за посиланням.

Радимо ознайомитися із детальними правилами, а також із відповідями на часті питання. Як і того року — у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток» можна отримати 21 бал за фотографії об'єктів, якщо світлин цієї пам'ятки раніше не було завантажено.

Нагадаємо, що всі фотографії автоматично беруть участь у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток»; однак для того, щоб фото позмагалося у номінації «Найкраще фото», потрібно підтвердити це при завантаженні.

Цього року вперше будуть окремо виділені фото з повітря (дронами, квадрокоптерами тощо) — у спеціальній номінації «Аерофото». Для того, щоб робота потрапила на спецномінацію потрібно вибрати її у Завантажувачі.

Також вперше проводиться спеціальна номінація «Пам'ятки Подесення», знову пройдуть спецномінації «Відео», «Єврейська спадщина», «Млини», «Пам'ятки національно-визвольної боротьби» та «Via Regia Ukraine». Для участі світлин у цих спецномінаціях не потрібно обирати нічого у Завантажувачі — світлини зараховуватимуться автоматично з відповідних списків.

Важливо! Цього року відбулася адміністративно-територіальна реформа. Однак, ми проводимо конкурс ще за попереднім адміністративно-територіальним устроєм. Ми почали роботу над створенням списків з новим поділом, але вона ще не є завершена. Ви можете користуватися тими новими списками, що вже є, якщо потрібно відшукати пам'ятку за новим поділом (деякі ОДА вже почали присилати у такому форматі), але пам'ятайте, що нові списки ще не є повними.

Нагадуємо, що до 30 вересня включно можна вантажити світлини та відео культурної спадщини України до національного етапу міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки»!

Зараз Україна посідає 3-є місце за кількістю завантажених світлин, поступаючись Російській Федерації та Німеччині. За першу половину місяця було завантажено світлини пам'яток із усіх регіонів України, але частина із них є дуже погано представлена. Севастополь зараз представлений тільки однією пам'яткою і одним фото, Крим — 12 пам'яток і 51 фото. Детальніше — у таблиці:

Цього року у конкурсі є вісім спеціальних номінацій:

Olá! O maior concurso fotográfico do mundo está de volta! Que tal participar mais uma vez (ou pela primeira vez!) do Wiki Loves Monuments? A etapa nacional da competição, que este ano está com novidades na faixa de premiação, ocorrerá de 01 a 30 de setembro.

В Україні цей конкурс пройде вже водинадцяте. На конкурс можна подавати власні фото пам'яток історико-культурної спадщини України — і змагатися за призи. Більше можна прочитати за посиланням.

Радимо ознайомитися із детальними правилами, а також із відповідями на часті питання. Як і того року — у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток» можна отримати 21 бал за фотографії об'єктів, якщо світлин цієї пам'ятки раніше не було завантажено.

Salut GrandEscogriffe, mes sincères excuses pour le retard d'une réponse, j'ai dû voir la notif Commons il y a une semaine mais j'étais bien trop pris dernièrement.

Difficile d'être plus dithyrambique, mais le résultat est juste splendide ! J'imagine que ça a dû être une corvée à réaliser. Histoire de prouver cet incroyable soucis du détail, on a la côte sud-ouest du kraï de Krasnodar (la région de Sotchi en gros) qui est placée ici en Asie, car située apparemment en dessous du Grand Caucase.

Tu fais très bien effectivement avec les républiques du Donbass, on a « changé d'époque » plusieurs fois entretemps. Quand bien même la situation s'est plus ou moins stabilisée depuis la libération de Kherson, mieux vaut se limiter à la Crimée.

Je comprends également l'absence du Haut-Karabagh, où son existence depuis deux-trois ans ne risque pas de faire long feu. Juste histoire de pinailler (et encore, on peut très bien en faire abstraction), je mettrais peut-être Imbros du côté européen (car située au large de la péninsule de Gallipoli) et la Palestine en pointillés (qui demeure un État moyennement reconnu). Concernant Akrotiri et Dhekelia, je n'ai pas l'impression que les cartes le mettent souvent en évidence, preuve peut-être que ce n'est pas un véritable territoire d'outre-mer.

Je créerai le modèle dédié, en supposant qu'il ne faut mieux pas remplacer le « modèle:Géolocalisation/Europe » actuel mais créer quelque chose comme « modèle:Géolocalisation/Europe 2 ». Je vais essayer de le faire fonctionner et comprendre toutes ces données/paramètres différents de d'habitude.

GrandEscogriffe Rien de très surprenant, mais je n'ai pas réussi à faire fonctionner le modèle, quand bien même toutes les coordonnées ont été généreusement précisées dans la description des fichiers... Pour t'embêter une dernière fois, est-ce que tu peux fournir ici un wikicode succinct qui irait pour notre modèle en question ? Le code du modèle de géoloc n'est pas très loin de fonctionner. Les seules modifications indispensables sont dans les lignes | y = et | x = car la latitude et la longitude, désignées respectivement $1 et $2 dans la description du fichier Commons, sont les paramètres {{{2}}} et {{{3}}} dans les modèles de géolocalisation de Wikipédia en français. Donc :

À part ça :

• n, latitudeG, dx, top, bottom, longitude, latitude1, latitude2 : pas utiles, ce sont des paramètres des modèles-interfaces Géolocalisation/Projection conique linéaire et/ou Géolocalisation/Projection conique équidistante qui ne sont pas utilisés ici....
• ...car ce n'est pas une projection conique équidistante ( = linéaire) mais une projection stéréographique. Il faut donc corriger projection en bas. Ce n'est pas indispensable au fonctionnement du modèle mais ça permettra de donner l'information exacte dans sa documentation.
• image, iwidth, iheight, name, zone, genre : c'est parfait
• geo : ce paramètre obsolète depuis au moins 2013 servait à faire un lien vers un site qui n'existe plus. Il faudrait faire passer un bot pour le retirer des modèles de géoloc (presque tous) où il se trouve toujours.
• left, right : peu utiles et pas précisément définis (contrairement aux cas d'utilisation du modèle de projection équirectangulaire dans lesquels ils sont indispensables !) car dans cette carte à projection stéréographique, les bords gauche et droit ne correspondent pas à une longitude unique. En l'état, ça ne sert que dans la gestion de la position du toponyme par l'Infobox Subdivision administrative pour éviter qu'il se retrouve en dehors de la minicarte (et je pense qu'il vaudrait mieux gérer ça autrement). Tant qu'à faire, mettre des longitudes approximatives telles que | left = -50, | right = 60.
• Peut-être aussi mettre un balisage includeonly autour du code par habitude/précaution (<includeonly>{{#switch:{{{1}}}... au début ; }}</includeonly><noinclude>... à la fin) ; et refermer le balisage noinclude après la documentation (...</noinclude> à la toute fin). Mais ça ne devrait rien changer ici.

sur le contenu des cartes

Le mérite du détail de la limite caucasienne de l'Europe ne me revient pas car dans ce secteur j'ai gardé la même limite que cette carte que tu avais proposée sur l'AG et sur laquelle je me suis fondé. Par contre j'ai modifié sa frontière ouralienne en enlevant les zig-zags qui semblent être la limite administrative entre la Bachkirie et l'oblast de Tchéliabinsk, ce qui ne cadre pas avec une définition "physique" de l'Europe incluant tout le bassin de la Volga. Mais je devrais la modifier encore car le réservoir d'Iriklinsk qu'on voit près de la frontière kazakhe est sur le fleuve Oural donc devrait être sur la limite et non à l'intérieur de l'Europe.

D'accord pour Imbros. D'accord ou neutre concernant la Palestine ; dans une carte récente on avait décidé de la représenter comme un État à part entière ce qui est la position diplomatique majoritaire mais pas consensuelle au niveau mondial. Les pointillés sont défendables.

Avec le recul je trouve la carte topographique un poil trop claire mais je garde ces couleurs car elles correspondent à un standard. Je vais peut-être essayer de mettre un trait de côte en bleu foncé et de faire tendre les terres non-européennes vers un gris clair plutôt que vers le blanc. Il y aussi la possibilité de l'ombrage des zones montagneuses, assez esthétique mais ça fait perdre la correspondance exacte plage d'altitude/couleur. Par ailleurs, j'ai choisi de ne pas mettre les frontières politiques ni les méridiens/parallèles mais les choix inverses sont défendables. Éventuellement dans un autre fichier.

Je ne sais pas quand je ferai ces éventuelles modifications futures mais en tout cas les cartes sont utilisables en l'état. BàT, --GrandEscogriffe (talk) 01:52, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Je me doutais qu'il y avait bien plus de paramètres qu'il n'en faut, où je m'étais bêtement calqué sur le modèle géoloc de la Russie, en m'imaginant pour ce dernier qu'il s'agit d'un format de carte assez similaire. Pour le coup, j'avais mis initialement la « projection stéréographique » ; mais comme cela donnait un lien rouge sur l'affichage du modèle, je m'étais dit que ce n'est pas le bon. Pour le paramètre « geo », j'avais vu effectivement dans une ancienne discussion qu'il était issu d'un lien caduc ; il doit être à l'origine d'ailleurs de l'apposition automatique de la catégorie:Modèle de paramétrage de carte problématique pour d'innombrables pages. Comme tu l'as vu sur l'atelier, Antimuonium serait sûrement intéressé par toutes ces précisions.

Je te laisse voir pour ces retouches optionnelles, qui effectivement n'empêchent en rien l'opérationnalité des fichiers. Concernant les frontières ouraliennes, tout n'est que question d'interprétation dorénavant, il y a des dizaines d'« exégèses » différentes et contradictoires sur le découpage à choisir. Rien qu'avec la baie Baïdaratskaïa, tu peux voir qu'il y a une différence de traitement entre les « deux cartes étalons » de l'atelier. Je n'avais pas vu ces discussions pour la Palestine, où sa reconnaissance « intermédiaire » n'est peut-être pas comparable aux autres États faiblement reconnus. Libre à toi naturellement de modifier/mettre en forme comme tu l'entends tes propres créations. Histoire d'en finir et par simple curiosité, j'ai pu constater une nouvelle fois le flou latent sur la frontière ouralienne. Et plus particulièrement au niveau de l'Oural polaire, qui forme lui-même un « arc montagneux » avec les monts Paï-Tchoï (dans la péninsule Iougorski), l'île Vaïgatch et la Nouvelle-Zemble. En regardant dans la liste des points extrêmes de l'Europe (et ses versions dans les autres wikis), il y a au moins trois candidats potentiels pour le point le plus oriental du continent :

• un cap qui s'appellerait apparemment Mys Ngartisalya, bordant ici la baie Baïdaratskaïa (en mer de Kara) ;

  68° 18′ 52.2″ N, 68° 15′ 52.92″ E

• le point le plus oriental de la république des Komis, en prenant ici l'optique purement administrative ;

  67° 44′ 02.7″ N, 66° 14′ 36.24″ E

• un sommet sans nom de 545 mètres, qui serait le point le plus à l'est du bassin versant de l'Oural.

Hi Headlock0225, this is about the removal of Category:Horses of the United Kingdom from various UK territories. Even though "Crown Dependencies" are indeed a very specific case, all categories on Commons categorize them as "British" territories (see for exemple Category:Nature of the British Crown Dependencies). For simplicity, I suggest that we re-add the removed category. Як і в попередні роки, долучитися до змагання можуть усі охочі — як професійні фотографи, так і аматори. Головне, щоб ви любили Землю і розділяли ідею конкурсу — представити природно-заповідні території України за допомогою світлин під вільними ліцензіями. У Вікіпедії та Вікісховищі конкурсні фото будуть доступні тисячам людей.

Загальний формат конкурсу такий же, як у минулі роки. Стежте за новинами проєкту у Facebook, Instagram або в блозі. Також ключова інформація буде з'являтися на сторінці у Вікісховищі.

Важливо! З міркувань національної безпеки та безпеки учасників і учасниць до участі у конкурсі допускаються тільки фото та відео, зроблені до 23 лютого 2022 року включно!

Рекомендуємо уважно ознайомитись з правилами конкурсу та звернути увагу на вимоги щодо якості фотографій. Цьогоріч мінімальна роздільна здатність фотографій, які приймаються на конкурс, становить 2 Мп.
