Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Italian aircrafts

Hi, OppidumNissenae, Thank you for your letter. If I understand well, you want me to draw sketches according to the document you sent me. First: I have no any software device by means of which I could automativally transfere raster drawings to vector ones, so I have to construct every drawing with hard hand work. Second: The simplified drawings are suited for identification of planes, but not for illustrations for the Wikipedia. Third: I plan make svg drawings about Italian airplanes too, but I need a lot of time for it and better source drawings. I have already a drawing about the Reggiane R.2000, and now I work on Macchi M39. Please, look at my author home page in the Wikimedia Commons from time to time, and probably you will find you want. •  Support This scope (category and sub-categories) contains 107 images. But, for mainscope, I think an image of the entire plant is appropriate. There aren't so many of those. This one has good resolution, illumination and exposure. It depicts the stems, is geocoded and has an uncluttered background, while File:Es Saulonar 02.jpg lacks those qualities. File:Chamaerops humilis (Zingaro)016.jpg does not show the fruit, is not geocoded although its location in a protected area is given, and has lower resolution. While it is a strong competitor, I support this image. Please add this image to Chamaerops humilis. In the scope, you don't need the "A" and I don't think the link of saw palmetto to category:Palms in Italy is helpful, so I've made those changes. --Walter Siegmund (talk) 04:49, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

When an image is promoted, the scope becomes the caption in the VI gallery, e.g., Commons:Valued_images_by_topic/Life_forms#Flowering_plants_.28Magnoliophyta.29. The practice is to not link the common names. Please add this image to the gallery Chamaerops humilis. If you specify the gallery page in the scope, VICbot will annotate the image in the gallery.[2] I've changed the scope to Chamaerops humilis. Salve, pensando di fare chiarezza ho raggruppato tutti i sedili a mensoloni in marmo opera di Girolamo Ciulla, nella "categoria:Stone benches in Caltanissetta" che è a sua volta una sotto-categoria dello scultore contemporaneo Girolamo Ciulla (tra l'altro essendo vivente non è nel libero dominio). • per quanto riguarda la foto di Salvatore Sciascia con J.F. Kennedy: è stata fatta negli Stati Uniti e quindi -artistica o meno- non può essere PD-Italy. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

• @Spurzem: It's a perfectly valid reason to decline—coming up with an appropriate scope is the primary thing the nominator is supposed to do. An nomination must meet all six VI criteria to pass a VI review; this nomination fails criterion #2 ("Is nominated as being the most valuable within a suitably generic scope.". The nominator is welcome to revise the scope, but I can't think of any suitable scope that this image would be the best in. Concorso Wiki Loves Monuments Italia 2018 (English version)

Gentile OppidumNissenae, ti ringraziamo ancora una volta per la tua passata partecipazione a Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM). Il più grande concorso fotografico del mondo si svolge anche questo settembre per documentare e promuovere il patrimonio culturale italiano, con una licenza copyright libera.

Quest'anno è doppiamente facile partecipare: gli oggetti fotografabili coprono quasi 1000 comuni in più, grazie all'adesione di centinaia di nuovi enti fra cui Roma, e alla possibilità di fotografare circa 2000 alberi monumentali. Controlla le liste di monumenti fotografabili! Carica tutte le foto che hai e magari organizza una visita presso i monumenti che ancora non hanno una foto.

Quest'oggi il Parlamento europeo ha respinto la proposta di estendere la libertà di panorama. E allora scattiamo e pubblichiamo tutte le foto che possiamo, almeno per questi monumenti per cui ci è legalmente consentito!

Ciao scusa ma non avevo letto il tuo avviso. Si tratta di un blocco di foto che avevo caricato insieme con il PD-Italy convinto, come ho sempre fatto, che i testi fossero comuni immagini e non soggiacessero ad uno specifica dichiaratoria. Scusa non volevo creare danni, ci mancherebbe.

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on 1 May 2023, 23:59:59 UTC.
