Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Attenzione alle sovracategorizzazioni

Ciao, ho fatto "un giro" nella Category:Castel Goffredo dove ho visto sei tu l'autore di numerose fotografie. Mi permetto di farti notare che è sbagliato categorizzare le foto sia nella cat madre (Category:Castel Goffredo) che, ad esempio, nella Category:Churches in Castel Goffredo, vedi il diagramma qui a lato, mentre è utilissimo e straconsigliato inserire delle categorie "accessorie" a quelle semplicemente territoriali per dare visibilità maggiore ad esempio ad una lapide, ad un bassorilievo, ad un bassorilievo di un artista, personaggio famoso, etc etc. Se dai un'occhiata a Category:Plaques in Castel Goffredo ed ai file ora inseriti in quel contesto ti renderai conto di quanto può essere utile diversificare le categorie e quanto potrebbe essere interessante sapere che esiste una lapide dedicata a Dante Alighieri posta sulla facciata di un castello/palazzo (quindi inserendola nella cat dell'edificio) in data tal dei tali (e così mettere anche la data di istallazione della lapide) in modo che possa anche essere usata, ad esempio, nella voce wikipediana relativa agli anni, alle lapidi, a Dante Alighieri, ai bassorilievi... Volendo c'è un mondo intero di informazioni che si potrebbero inserire per ogni foto, rimanendo sulla lapide ad esempio mettere di che materiale è fatta (marmo o semplice granito, bronzo o altro metallo) quale fu l'artista che la scolpì (molte volte sono ignoti ma alle volte si scopre che furono opere di scultori "locali ed ingiustamente considerati minori" ma utili per la storia di una città), addirittura per forma (oltre le comuni rettangolari ci sono quelle ellittiche, circolari, quadrate, romboidali da collegare con le cat sulle figure geometriche), per colore (vedi la tipologia del marmo), per uso (alcune lapidi sono anche pietre tombali, pensa ai monumenti sepolcrali posti in chiese, chiese sconsacrate, mausolei laici...) insomma come vedi ci si può sbizzarrire e, se sei malato di cultura e/o curiosità, scoprire la possibilità di "giocare ad abbinare categorie" (naturalmente pertinenti e con un senso logico) nel solo limite commonaro di non creare una cat dove inserire una sola foto. Se la cosa ti interessa e vuoi andare a caccia delle foto da te inserite per categorizzarle più efficacemente non esitare a contattarmi, non mi dispiace affatto condividere ciò che altri utenti mi hanno insegnato nel tempo :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 08:09, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Un volontario per il lavoro sporco?

Ma sei il benvenuto, naturalmente! Guarda, il mare magnum del lavoro sporco partirebbe da Category:Media needing categories ma è la madre di tutte le categorie e rischi di perdere, tempo, pazienza e risorse. Una buona cosa è passare ogni tanto nelle cat madri italiane tipo Category:Italy, questo perché se usano qualche bot per caricare immagini da Flickr o da altri contenitori multimediali spesso sovracategorizzano perché inseriscono tutte le sovracategorizzazioni di partenza (in Flickr non fanno caso a queste cose). Se invece vuoi "scendere" verso dei soggetti particolari basta tu mi dica quello a cui ti senti più affine e vediamo di partire da lì. Un consiglio basato sulla mia esperienza: se ti metti a categorizzare chiese può essere lungo ma comunque dare i suoi frutti prendere una macrocategoria di comuni per provincia e andare a vedere se hanno inserito una chiesa in quella cat del comune, quindi estrarla, o meglio se è l'unica immagine, inserire le cat di chiese per provincia, di chiese per santo patrono in Italia e di collocazione all'interno di una diocesi. Se poi si riesce a risalire alla data di completamento inserire anche la "Church in Italy built in XXXX" e nel caso ci fosse già la cat "regionale" anche quella per secolo, "17th-century churches in Lombardy". Per ogni dubbio non farti riguardo, contattami e/o guarda quello che faccio io con altre categoria simili o file simili (anche io ho copiato dai maestri...). Giusto per far vedere che cosa ho combinato, vediamo perché e come ho creato Category:San Vito (San Vito, Casaloldo). Alcuni utenti di lingua italiana hanno pensato di standardizzare i nomi relativi alle chiese così da saperli riconoscere al volo: si è deciso di omettere "Chiesa di", "Basilica di", lasciando solo "Duomo di" per la quantità industriale di "duomi" in Italia, stesso discorso per le Cattedrali e Concattedrali... ma non vorrei divagare: in questa d'esempio "San Vito" è una frazione del comune di Casaloldo e, come spesso accade in italia, la frazione è sorta attorno alla chiesa e ne ha preso il nome. Come fare allora? mettendo tra parentesi il nome della frazione si capisce che San Vito è un edificio religioso nella frazione di San Vito, meglio ancora se si riesce a creare la cat per la frazione che andrà a finire nella cat del comune di appartenenza e nella macrocat di frazioni all'interno di una provincia. Ah, perdonami, un paio di ultime cose e poi ti lascio in pace: se nel caso qui sopra l'edificio religioso che si chiama San Vito è un oratorio e non una chiesa, per semplicità si categorizza all'interno delle chiese del comune di appartenenza (ma con la disambigua nel titolo della categoria si capisce subito che non appartiene al capoluogo), solo in caso di rara omonimia tra una chiesa ed un oratorio (alle volte quando hanno costruito una chiesa più grande declassando la precedente ad oratorio) si prova ad inserire "oratorio" da qualche parte della categoria dell'edificio e si crea anche la cat "Oratories in Wikipediatown", a sua volta sottocat della "Churches in Wikipediatown". Un esempio lo puoi trovare con Category:Oratories in Rovigo, basta tenere lo stesso schema, e nel caso ci siano molte foto di oratori in una diocesi si crea anche Category:Oratories in Diocese of Adria-Rovigo. Tieni presente che il concetto di it:oratorio è cambiato nel tempo e quello che non chiamiamo oratorio in altre nazioni sono indicati come cappelle (Chapels) quando noi invece intendiamo quelle parti delle chiese che contengono un vano o un altare minore dedicato ad un santo diverso da quello della chiesa. Per ultimo, dato che tu sai dove hai scattato la foto, abituati ad usare il geolocator così da dare anche una precisa indicazione geografica di dove è sito quel che hai fotografato. Io mi diverto molto ad andare a caccia delle chiese usando anche Google StreetView, inoltre cerco di scoprire a chi sono intitolate andando a caccia nei siti delle diocesi che di solito hanno la sezione parrocchie (alle volte una parrocchia non ha l'esatto titolo della chiesa ma piuttosto che niente meglio piuttosto, fanno sempre in tempo a chiedere il cambio nome.)--Threecharlie (talk) 16:32, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Ciao, mi permetto di farti partecipe di un mio pensiero. Benché ci sia una chiara esortazione a caricare delle immagine migliori di quelle già presenti a meno che non abbiano grosse tare, come essere evidentemente mosse, io non carico una nuova immagine sovrapponendola a quella già presente ma tengo la vecchia caricando la nuova con un nuovo nomefile. IMHO avere delle foto che fissano un edificio, una chiesa, un monumento, in una certa data avendone una più recente si può rilevare (forse) i segni del tempo e del degrado, dalla quantità di guano depositato sulla testa delle povere statue alle (purtroppo) crepe o comunque danni più o meno evidenti a causa dei recenti terremoti. Riassumendo nel caso del File:Casaloldo chiesa parrocchiale.jpg non mi dispiacerebbe avere a disposizioni entrambe le versioni :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 18:09, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Le foto di quadri ed incisioni, se sono fatte senza inquadrare la cornice o se sono poi ritagliate, non sono considerate opere derivate quindi rileva il copyright originale del quadro, la data di pubblicazione del libro non conta. Invece quella della morte dell'autore del quadro si.In genere 70 anni dopo la morte dell'autore la foro si può caricare qui. Si, sarebbe preferibile richiederne la cancellazione. Per ogni File, alla tua sinistra in fondo trovi il menu a tendina "Strumenti". Aprendolo, per ultimo troverai "Nominate for deletion" clicchi e ti comparirà una finestra dove dovrai inserire la motivazione della richiesta di cancellazione (preferibilmente in inglese). Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Teseo,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Hi Massimo Telò, please respect that Commons has a project scope and that contributed images must be realistically useful for an educational purpose. For this reason please give useful categories and useful descriptions to your images. So that every other user can find your images through their categories and can understand what you want to teach with the images through their descriptions. To meet the project scope please keep everything as educational as possible. Keep in mind that most people in the world do not know what is visible in your images and therefore urgently require understandable descriptions and categories made by you!

Particularly note that an image taken at an unknown location in maybe Canada or wherever is not anyhow educational! -- Ies (talk) 21:29, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 is weer begonnen!

Beste Teseo,

Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 is vorige week begonnen! Aan deze fotowedstrijd nemen dit jaar 54 landen deel, waaronder bijvoorbeeld Nederland, Groot Brittannië, Thailand, Rusland, Oekraïne, maar ook de eilanden Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius en Sint Maarten in de Nederlandse Caribean. Je wordt dus van harte uitgenodigd om te kijken tussen de deelnemende landen of jouw vakantieland er ook bij zit dit jaar en je foto's uit die landen ook te delen!

Net als voorgaande jaren hebben we prijzen voor de mooiste foto en de meeste foto's en een keus gemaakt voor een speciale categorie. Heb jij een foto gemaakt van een monument waarvan voor 1 september 2017 nog geen afbeelding op Wikimedia Commons bestond? Dan doet de afbeelding mee in de speciale categorie! Heeft een monument nog geen foto in de monumentenlijst op Wikipedia, dan is het aannemelijk dat we er nog geen foto van hadden. Om het zoeken naar monumenten zonder afbeelding wat makkelijker te maken, kun je op Wikipedia lijsten en een kaart van Nederland vinden.

Tot slot nodigen we je nog van harte uit om volgende week met ons op pad te gaan. Op zaterdag 16 september wandelen we tijdens een Wiki Takes rond in Hoorn: op zondag 17 september doen we hetzelfde in Leiden. Onder ervaren gidsen wandelen we langs monumenten in de stad en nemen we ruimschoots de tijd om de monumenten goed op de foto te zetten. Aanmelden verplicht en plaatsen gelimiteerd!
Tot en met 30 september heb je de tijd om je foto's up te loaden: de top 10 gaat door naar de internationale wedstrijd, waar de hoofdprijs de nieuwste Canon EOS 5D camera is!

Wiki Loves Monuments ti aspetta, con centinaia di nuovi comuni fotografabili

Concorso Wiki Loves Monuments Italia 2018 (English version)

Gentile Massimo Telò, ti ringraziamo ancora una volta per la tua passata partecipazione a Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM). Il più grande concorso fotografico del mondo si svolge anche questo settembre per documentare e promuovere il patrimonio culturale italiano, con una licenza copyright libera.

Quest'anno è doppiamente facile partecipare: gli oggetti fotografabili coprono quasi 1000 comuni in più, grazie all'adesione di centinaia di nuovi enti fra cui Roma, e alla possibilità di fotografare circa 2000 alberi monumentali. Controlla le liste di monumenti fotografabili! Carica tutte le foto che hai e magari organizza una visita presso i monumenti che ancora non hanno una foto.

Quest'oggi il Parlamento europeo ha respinto la proposta di estendere la libertà di panorama. E allora scattiamo e pubblichiamo tutte le foto che possiamo, almeno per questi monumenti per cui ci è legalmente consentito!

Hallo Teseo,

bald ist es soweit: Vom 1. bis zum 30. September 2019 findet zum neunten Mal der internationale Wettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments statt. Dabei können Bau- und Kulturdenkmale fotografiert und die Fotos hochgeladen werden. Du hast an einem der vergangenen Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen. Deshalb laden wir dich ein, dieses Jahr wieder mitzumachen. Wir freuen uns auf deine Fotos!

Es sind viele spannende Motive überall in Deutschland zu fotografieren. Neben beeindruckenden märchenhaften Schlössern, Burgen und Kirchen können auch andere Kulturdenkmale wie Brücken, Industrieruinen, Bauernhöfe oder Parks fotografiert werden, um sie unter anderem in der Wikipedia zu dokumentieren. In den letzten Jahren sind zahlreiche neue Denkmallisten entstanden, die sich über Fotos freuen. Für die Suche nach Motiven gibt es bei Wikipedia zahlreiche Listen und Karten. Als Einstieg hilft diese Übersichtsseite. Weitere Informationen erhältst du auf der Mitmach-Seite.

Du bist interessiert, am Wettbewerb mitzuwirken, dir fehlt aber die richtige Technik? Dann wirf doch mal einen Blick in den Technikpool und das Technikleihportal von Wikimedia Deutschland! Dort findest du Kameras, Objektive und Zubehör verschiedenster Art. Sollte noch Technik fehlen, die aber in Zukunft unbedingt benötigt wird, dann freut sich Wikimedia Deutschland über dein Feedback zum Technikpool.

Außerdem laden wir Dich ein, ab Mitte September 2019 an der Vorjury teilzunehmen. Diese bewertet die hochgeladenen Bilder und ermittelt so gemeinsam mit der Jury, die im Oktober tagt, die Sieger von Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in Deutschland. Das Vorjurytool ist hier bald freigeschaltet. Du benötigst dafür nur deinen Benutzernamen und das Passwort.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2021

Quest’anno partecipi al concorso Wiki Loves Monuments?

Da domani sarà possibile caricare di nuovo le foto, fino al 30 settembre!

Come ogni anno, e questo è il decimo anniversario, torna Wiki Loves Monuments, il concorso fotografico più grande al mondo che negli anni ha coinvolto quasi 50 nazioni e più di 15.000 persone e hanno prodotto un database di oltre 360.000 immagini di monumenti, patrimonio culturale dell’umanità intera a disposizione di tutti su Wikimedia Commons.

Con la tua partecipazione hai sostenuto lo sviluppo turistico del nostro Paese perché rende disponibili a tutti le sue bellezze. L’obiettivo è la valorizzazione dell’immenso patrimonio culturale italiano sul web. Le fotografie dei monumenti vengono condivise su Wikimedia Commons, il grande database di immagini di Wikipedia, con licenza libera CC-BY-SA. Wiki Loves Monuments contribuisce infatti a diffondere la filosofia di Wikimedia Italia e di tutti i progetti wiki, che si basano sulla libera condivisione della cultura.

L’Italia nelle sue prime 9 edizioni (dal 2012 al 2020) conta 145.000 immagini 15.000 monumenti, 2.000 fotografi, 2.000 enti. Uno dei 2.000 fotografi sei tu e quindi anche quest’anno non puoi mancare, partecipa!!!

Dear uploader of Wiki Loves Earth in Switzerland and Wiki Loves Monuments in Switzerland, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in the whole world. It is now open in your country until December, 15th.

If you want to take part in WSC2021, please consult this page. There are different categories that can be used (you might therefore have something already interesting in your archive). Prizes can be allocated for the 1st and 2nd positions in every category.

If you are an expert user, we remind you that the images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface by simply adding the national category.

If you take part, please consider improving the description in English of your files, since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them at the following step. World finalists will be finalized after March 2022.

Ciao, ti scrivo perché negli anni scorsi hai partecipato a Wiki Loves Monuments e in particolare alla sua edizione regionale per la Puglia, Wiki Loves Puglia. Ti ricordo che il concorso torna dal 1º al 30 settembre, come ogni anno, e che puoi caricare sin da ora le tue fotografie! Novità di quest'anno, oltre all'aggiunta di alcuni comuni tra cui Taranto, è l'arrivo di tutti i castelli e di tutte le fortificazioni d'Italia, nonché di Puglia. Puoi caricare le foto dei monumenti partecipanti sempre tramite le liste su Wikipedia in italiano, mentre l'elenco delle wikigite, cioè le passeggiate fotografiche, previste e altre informazioni su premi e giuria si trovano qui. Anche quest’anno torna Wiki Loves Monuments: da oggi al 30 settembre puoi partecipare caricando le tue foto per contribuire a illustrare il patrimonio culturale italiano: vai sul sito wikilovesmonuments.it e scopri come fare!

Oltre ai 20.000 monumenti già in concorso, quest’anno si aggiungono più di 60.000 edifici religiosi, tema centrale di quest’edizione. Prendi la tua macchina fotografica, o il tuo smartphone, e individua i monumenti in concorso tramite la nuova web-app – disponibile sia da mobile che desktop – app.wikilovesmonuments.it, da cui potrai anche caricare direttamente i tuoi scatti. Sono ammesse anche foto scattate prima del concorso, purché siano inedite.

A livello nazionale verranno premiate le dieci migliori fotografie: cinque per gli edifici religiosi e cinque per le altre categorie di monumenti; queste immagini parteciperanno anche alla fase internazionale del concorso. Non sono ammesse immagini con watermark o cornici, né fotografie eccessivamente elaborate in postproduzione. Ciao, ti scrivo perché in passato hai partecipato a Wiki Loves Monuments con fotografie della Puglia. Ritorna anche quest'anno, per la quinta edizione, il concorso regionale di Wiki Loves Monuments dedicato alla Puglia: Wiki Loves Puglia. A partire da quest'anno partecipano anche tutte le chiese e gli edifici religiosi; c'è anche un'altra novità: le fotografie verranno caricate su Wikimedia Commons attraverso la nuova app del concorso. Vorrei invitarti a partecipare anche quest'anno con le tue fotografie della regione entro il 30 settembre!
