Description
English: 'Dedicated to His Majesty the King [Key to] Greenwich Pensioners Commemorating the Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. Painted by John Burnet...'

This is a copy of the identifying key and subscribers' list to Burnet's engraving of 'Greenwich Pensioners commemorating the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar' in 1835 (see PAI1598), and thus also to the original painting executed as a pendant to Wilkie's 'Chelsea Pensioners reading the Waterloo dispatch'. Both were purchased by the Duke of Wellington and are still at Apsley House. The NMM has S. P. Denning's watercolour copy from which Burnet engraved the Greenwich picture and impressions of the print, for which this bears the subscription list. See also PAI0478.
