File:Kartini.jpg edit
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Les deux pieds dedans edit
Salut,
Comment classer Category:Ancient Greek military equipment ? Et ne devrait-on pas avoir Category:Warfare in ancient Greece en catégorie-mère de Category:Military history of Ancient Greece plutôt que l'inverse ? Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 16:48, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 11:32, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Renaissance warfare vs early modern warfare edit
Dear Thib Phil, I believe of the category changes you've made regarding renaissance warfare (such as [1]), actually reflect early modern warfare. I think you should carefully judge them before categorizing. Thanks in advance. Kind regards, Kweniston (talk) 23:15, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for your answer, please view my talk page. Fast movers.... :). Kweniston (talk) 23:38, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Cats edit
Hi, I've added Category:Horse armours to Category:Cavalry equipment, so adding the second to images with the first is no longer necessary. Sandstein (talk) 21:55, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Bis repetita edit
Salut,
Ici, on a des Category:Shoes in history, des Category:Women in history, des Category:Horses in art...
Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 21:40, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Edit summaries edit
Hi, thanks for adding categories to images I've uploaded. But it would be helpful if, when you add them, you add a brief edit summary, so that those of us who've uploaded and have these things on our watch lists know what the addition was. Again, thank you for your contributions here. MarmadukePercy (talk) 11:53, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Early mechanization of the British Army edit
I suggest that you add some images to this quickly or one of my colleagues will delete it as out of scope. It is always better to create complex galleries in a user subpage such as User:Thib Phil/Sandbox 1 and copy it to the gallery only when it is substantially done -- at least for a first pass. White Pine Village Civil War reenactment edit
Please do not add Category:White Pine Village Civil War reenactment to Category:Ancient military life reenactment and reconstruction. The American Civil War was just 150 years ago -- hardly ancient! -- and most of what's depicted in that category is civilian reenactment, not military! Thanks, cmadler (talk) 20:56, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Also, Category:Ancient military life reenactment and reconstruction generally duplicates Category:Classical reenactments and its subcategories. Also, it seems that Category:Military life is for images of actual military, not reenactments, which should be in a subcategory of Category:Reenactments. Thanks, cmadler (talk) 21:02, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- With regard to your question, I would use a rule of thumb of "Classical" from 800 BC to 600 AD; "Medieval" from 501 AD to 1500 AD; "Rennaissance" from 1301 AD to 1700 AD; "Modern" from 1701 AD to present. Note that there are some overlaps by date, because, for example, the Rennaissance began much earlier in Italy than in England. These are, of course, Eurocentric terms, but -- so far, at least -- most or all the images being described are European/North American. cmadler (talk) 21:07, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds like en:Living history? Could even be broken down per the above or similar classifications into Category:Classical era living history, etc., as subcategories of Category:Classical reenactments and Category:Living history. cmadler (talk) 21:12, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Could eventually have Category:Reenactment by type with subcategories as described at en:Historical reenactment#Types of reenactment... cmadler (talk) 21:15, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Just got a chance to look at what you did. I wonder if you'd be better served by making a gallery? cmadler (talk) 17:18, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- Yes! Just like that! Let me know if you need/want any help with it. cmadler (talk) 18:01, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- Well, aside from reenactments commemorating major battles, such as en:Battle of Waterloo reenactment or en:Battle of Hastings reenactment, which often stand as their own event, smaller reenactments are often part of or attached to fairs, festivals, and the like. So images might get uploaded as part of a larger set of "Townville fair", and it will be up to whoever notices them to mark appropriate images as reenactments. If you find one, and aren't able to categorize it more specifically, you can always just dump it into the main Category:Reenactments; I go through there periodically and try to move them into subcategories (if I can find enough information to do so, such as period/war/battle being reenacted and the location of the reenactment). cmadler (talk) 18:37, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
