File:Siebrecht,Christian 2011 Bonn.jpg

Please delete the file (with the incorrect name Christian), because it is identical with File:Siebrecht,Sebastian 2011 Bonn.jpg --GFHund (talk) 09:11, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Just label it with {{badname|Siebrecht,Sebastian 2011 Bonn.jpg}} and it will be processed (I have tagged it for you). --Tony Wills (talk) 09:52, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Time to prod the bot for a closer look

Images uploaded by the new wizard (currently about 36000) have a hidden category added, which may be preventing the bot from tagging them as uncategorized. Looks like a manual bot run is needed and a mod to the bot to get it to ignore this category (or we need to pursuade the wizard not to bother with its category). --Tony Wills (talk) 02:42, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Do you have an example? Makes it easier for me to check. Multichill (talk) 09:20, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, browse Category:Uploaded with UploadWizard, eg File:A and J Inglis Cabo Corrientes later General Alvear.jpg, File:100 7529e.jpg, File:Zeralda tomb.jpg see (Commons:Village_pump#Upload Wizard keeping files from being marked as uncategorised) --Tony Wills (talk) 09:44, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. Couldn't find examples. Fixed it. I actually had to fix two things:
  1. Add the category to the ignore list
  2. Skip {{int:....}} templates
I'm doing a bot run now to catch up. Maybe I'll do a big hidden category bot run too today. Multichill (talk) 10:15, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 20:36, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Image:EU Member states and Candidate countries map.svg

Houston we have a Problem. Maybe it was not so good, the way I moved the file description to a subpage File:EU_Member_states_and_Candidate_countries_map.svg/Description --Alexrk2 (talk) 12:42, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Bot change request

I would like to use cat-a-lot to move or copy categories to uncategorised images. But it doesn't appear able to move or even copy images to a new category as the only categories are in templates (the uncategorised since xyz one). I don't expect the cat-a-lot script will be able to understand template categories for the foreseeable future, would it be possible to add a real (hidden) category to each image, instead of or as well as the template? --Tony Wills (talk) 07:05, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Not sure if this is a great idea. It shouldn't be too complicated to fix MediaWiki_talk:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js#Copying_images_from_categories_added_through_templates.
BTW, maybe the new version of Commons Commander] works with these. --  Docu  at 10:50, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Why would it not be a good idea? I don't really know how much effort it would be to fix cat-a-lot, but from past experience the mod would be way down the list of things to do. But pretty simple to add a category while adding a template. I have played with commons commander, seems pretty slow and clunky, especially when operating on large categories (ie thousands of files) (besides I think to use CC you need a toolserver account to operate it properly, and the categorization job is huge, we need all the help we can get). --Tony Wills (talk) 09:52, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Looks like the request has been in since at least 2008 MediaWiki_talk:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js#Categorizing uncategorized content with Cat-a-lot. --Tony Wills (talk) 10:02, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

File of hidden category

Files under my category:User Sameboat temporary documents are tagged for uncategorized, because I placed the {{User category}} in my category. Please fix your bot to recognize hidden category. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 11:45, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Please add {{Speedy}} to your test files once testing completed. --  Docu  at 05:57, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Uncategorized but not needed

The bot has notified me that the following images I uploaded are not categorized:

As far as I can tell, I do not need any of these images, and I am willing to have all of them deleted. How do I do that? --Davidt8 (talk) 15:14, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

There is a "Nominate for deletion" link on the left hand panel on each image page. If you have Java enabled that should do most of the work, but you need to give a good reason. But note that uncategorised isn't a reason in itself for deletion (and most of them are now categorised anyway), perhaps nominate one of them, then list the others as well on that deletion request page to save a bit of work, then it can be discussed whether some or all of them can be deleted. (disclaimer, it's not my bot, I'm just adding my 2c worth ;-) --Tony Wills (talk) 06:58, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

12:35 11 June 2011 I placed my image: 3 rope rod.jpg into category "Tensegrity". It's good. All other versions of this file (uncategorized)must be deleted. My mistake and my efforts to download the same file secondly, thirdly was caused by the incorrect work of the wizard, at the time I placed to Commons my file 3 rope rod.jpg.--Segrim (talk) 11:26, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Strange categories introduced

I noticed the bot had placed e.g. the following seemingly random pages into wikimedia tools cat:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:EliskaJechova.jpg
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hadanky-a-hlavolamy-130x180cm.jpg
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jan_Truhl%C3%A1%C5%99.jpg
Wonder why. Palosirkka (talk) 10:18, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

I now (too late) noticed the why part is in the FAQ... So consider this a FYI. Palosirkka (talk) 10:36, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
