Danke.

David Beals range

Can you run CU on 166.170.32.0/22? 2 IPs from this range were blocked on en.wiki today for David Beals vandalism ([1]). INeverCry 00:46, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Got one: English Ethling. Эlcobbola talk 03:06, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that, and for the mover spam service RFCU. I was on my way to block English Ethling here after seeing the tagging of his userpage on en.wiki. I don't know how you guys are dealing with Beals here as regards CU, but I used to automatically run checks two or three times per week on a set of ranges used by the sockmaster Messina when he was really active. I found socks pretty much every time on one range or another for a month or two. Even if that approach ended up pushing Beals toward using proxies, atleast it would slow him down and make things harder for him. I always saw this as a CU victory, which I still feel it is.

It's the same thing with Wikinger and history cleaning/revision deletion; when he sees his proxy blocked and his edits hidden before the user whose page he hit probably noticed it, you know it's got to piss him off a bit. Anyways, you, Krd and Magog the Ogre do a great job with CU. And here I though I'd be terribly missed...   INeverCry 03:34, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

:) Эlcobbola talk 16:05, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

It looks like Batman 54 has already been blocked. I'll be able to look at the socking aspect more closely tomorrow. I'm inclined to leave the images unprotected until there is a pattern of continued disruption; at this point in time it is just a one-off account. Bone headed closure

I do not intentionally make 'boneheaded closures'. Please assume good faith and assume that I take my position seriously, thanks -FASTILY 23:37, 20 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have not failed to assume good faith. Certainly, you thought you were doing the right thing - I've not said otherwise (note also boneheaded is an adjective applied to the closure, not to you). Certainly, however, you were wrong and the closure was boneheaded. Regardless of the copyright issue, no one acting with due care would have closed the request as hastily as you did. Accept the verbal trout, and move on. Эlcobbola talk 23:45, 20 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
We have a rules pertaining to civility on this project. As an administrator, you are expected to adhere to that rule. Of all people, I find it rather bizarre (and somewhat alarming) to have to remind you of this, but stupid is as stupid does. -FASTILY 23:52, 20 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Entertain your ego elsewhere, Fastily. I'm not interested in being a deflection for your embarrassment or in listening to this self-righteous piffle. Эlcobbola talk 00:07, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ironic, considering I originally came here to reprimand you for your own egotistical comments. A simple apology would have sufficed, but you're clearly intent on stubbornly riding that high horse. I won't be forgetting this, so enjoy yourself while you can :) -FASTILY 00:14, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hmm; I had warned this user earlier at VP or Help Desk about wrong use of words. But his reply was "it may your another language problem". Fastily, some people never going to accept what they are; it is better we accept as they are. :) Jee 03:51, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Apology and Question from Micaman 45

I apologize to you for uploading photos on the Wikipedia articles. All of the photos were unlicensed. Please tell me how to get a suitable license from Wikipedia for uploading photos on the articles. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Micaman45 (talk • contribs)

Micaman45, you may not simply upload any image you find on the internet. You need to be the author of an image or otherwise have evidence that it is freely licensed. The considerations surrounding "how to get a suitable license [for] Wikipedia" are complex and numerous; I'm not really able to answer such a broad question. I would suggest COM:L as a starting point. Эlcobbola talk 20:59, 2 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Milan

What's the problem with the fotos of Milan ?? --NL2015 (talk) 01:49, 6 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

@NL2015: Without links hard to guess about specific ones, but probably that there is no Freedom of Panorama in Italy. Revent (talk) 07:41, 6 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
NL2015, presumably you refer to Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by NL2015. Trophies are generally copyrightable for the reasons outlined at the essay I linked in the DR (User:Elcobbola/Awards). As Italy has no COM:FOP exclusion, we would require permission from the author (or copyright holder, if different) of the trophies themselves in order to host the images. David Manzur

Hello, my name is Felipe Achury, I'm the assistant of colombian painter David Manzur. David and I requested to update the information on him on wikipedia to Mrs. Marcela Franco Lozano. As we were new in all this, we received advise of one of the administrators regarding copyright issues. He was very kind and told us how to avoid any copyright infringement, that's why David Manzur sent an email yesterday authorizing Mrs.Marcela Franco Lozano to upload pictures of his work, since the primary and only source of images of his work to different colombian and foreign media is his studio. The Email was sent from his personal Gmail account to the following email address: permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Moreover, he did make clear that only Mrs. Marcela Franco Lozano was authorized to upload any pictures of his works of art.

We do hope to receive your advise on how to solve this, because our only goal is to create proper Wikipedia and Wikimedia articles on his art. We know that you have expressed your views to Mrs. Marcela Franco Lozano, and bearing in mind that maybe you didn't know about the Email authorizing her actions, you would be absolutely right.

We blame our inexperience for all the mistakes that have been done, but we want you to know that Mrs. Marcela Franco Lozano does not intent to do anything wrong and, as I said, our main purpose is to create proper articles on David Manzur. I thank you in advance for everything, and I do hope that once Wikipedia and Wikimedia know about David Manzur authorization to Mrs. Marcela Franco Lozano, she could have your guidance and advise to finish the work we have trusted her to do. Please excuse my english. My mother tongue is spanish. Have a good day.--Pipeatx (talk) 19:36, 6 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the note, Felipe. As I understand you've sent an email with permission, at this point you do not need to take any further action. The volunteer who processes the ticket will restore the images (or request restoration on your behalf) if everything is in order. The permissions queue is staffed by volunteers and is at times backlogged for several weeks, so you may need to be patient. There has recently been a request for special attention to the Spanish-language queue, however, so hopefully your ticket will be processed shortly. Эlcobbola talk 19:54, 6 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thnak you

Thank you very much for your quick response. We do hope that everything will be alright.

About deletion of images of Flora Rey and Stefan Strocen

Hi Elcobbola, I'm the son of these artist and I uploaded their pictures. Yes, my father died in 1999, and I wanted that they have their place in Wikipedia. I hope that you understand the situation and remove the nomination for deletion. Regards. Thank's a lot. Cybernene (talk)

Hi Cybernene, it is my understanding that Flora Rey is still alive; accordingly, she would need to provide permission to license images of her work through the process at COM:OTRS. For the works Stefan Strocen, you would need to submit documentation that intellectual property rights (not mere physical property rights) transferred to you upon your father's death. Unfortunately, merely being a relative or offspring is not demonstrative of authority to license on behalf of a parent or an estate. The images could certainly be retained if we received the appropriate evidence of permission. Эlcobbola talk 15:14, 9 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your research

You provided a list of sources on a point of copyright in this edit. Did you find them somewhere, or did you put this together yourself? In any case, thanks for the work. --Abd (talk) 21:10, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

About the copyright problems with works by Sergio de Castro

Hi, Эlcobbola. These documents:

File:Sergio de Castro 73.78 - Agamemnon (diptyque).jpg File:Sergio de Castro 55.163 - Don Quichotte et Sancho Panza.jpg File:Sergio de Castro 73.77 - Oreste (diptyque).jpg File:Sergio de Castro 61.43 - Autoportrait.jpg

belong to Sergio de Castro archives, which I own as his widow. I can also confirm that I have inherited copyrights but I will only send a written confirmation by private email to Wikimedia Commons. For any questions, you can write to the official mail of the Association Les Amis de Sergio de Castro (of which I am president): sergiodecastro@orange.fr

Thanks for your work and we hope to keep on working together on good terms.

Jonaselie , 12:08 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Jonaselie, yes, sending written permission (i.e., a scan of the actual legal conveyance- the document that transferred rights to you or an entity under your control) is all you need to do to resolve the issue. You may send it to the same address (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org) and reference ticket number 2015030410019789. Thanks, Эlcobbola talk 14:31, 23 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi, thanks for the information, but we are already in touch with them (we've sent confirmation to the French version address: permissions-commons-fr@wikimedia.org) and they haven't asked for a written permission or any other document. Jonaselie , 12:05 24 March 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I know, which is why I've referenced the OTRS ticket above (2015030410019789). You may send the document to that address as well. Эlcobbola talk 14:31, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Deucaleon, I have no knowledge of this file and from looking at its history and your talk page, I do not see that I have ever edited in relation to it. I must then inquire as to what assistance you need from me, a German-speaker (not a Spanish-speaker), and apparently also from Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard and Jcb. If you have submitted permission to OTRS, as you imply, it will be processed in due time. The queue is perennially backlogged, so you may need to be patient. Dragriffin

Hi. My picture file Thierry Pauchant.jpg was marked for deletion and in copyright violation. I don't understand the world of wikipedia yet and I'd like to know why I can't post it? This picture was first put up to the website cme.hec.ca (that I'm the admin on and therefore, belongs to me). It was personnally sent to me from Thierry Pauchant upon request. Can you please help me understand what I'm missing? Thanks Drake — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dragriffin (talk • contribs)

Hi Dragriffin, there are several issues. Copyright attaches upon creation, and is thus held by the author (i.e., photographer). Thierry Pauchant, as the mere subject, would not be expected to hold the copyright unless the photographer transferred it to him through a formal written conveyance. Therefore, in order to host the image, we would require a copy of the conveyance as well as evidence that you are an agent of Pauchant authorised to license the image on his behalf. This could be accomplished, for example, by providing the conveyance and identification of a free license from an address known to belong to Pauchant (e.g., thierry.pauchant@hec.ca per here) using the process at COM:OTRS. Another sockpuppet of Bruce2366

Orayht is another sockpuppet of Bruce2366 (Category:Sockpuppets of Bruce2366). Could you block him and add him to the category? Thus far the user has only uploaded one image, but it is a probable copyvio. The style of the upload text is identical to Weisenstar's (another recent sock), the user claims to be/live in the Philippines (like Weisenstar claims), and Weisenstar used the image the same day it was uploaded, both in a spurious Wikipedia article he created called Ryan rens that was speedily deleted, and in Ryan Rems. Please consider this a CheckUser request, if you need a outside request for that and if that is necessary. -- Softlavender (talk) 03:10, 15 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

Ciao Smitersleon (talk) 13:23, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Smitersleon, I'm unfamiliar with de.wikiquote, including its policies on user-provided translations and those that presumably gave rise to the article's currently pending deletion. I think it makes much more sense to reach out to users of de.wikiquote who, one would think by definition, are also German speakers and familiar with that project. Эlcobbola talk 14:43, 13 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello Elcobbola, and thank you for having responded to me , I'm sorry but I don't speak perfect English (and german). Will you help me ? The page has been deleted. I would like to create a page in dewikiquote as enwikiquote or itwikiquote, but nor this!(Game of Death) but this wikidata. Can you create the page please? Smitersleon (talk) 08:11, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Smitersleon, I'm sorry, but this is not a project with which I can help you. Again, I'm unfamiliar with de.wikiquote (or any language variant) and the article appears to have been deleted because an official or authorized translation is required, not because the translation was poor (i.e., even I did did translate the article, it would simply be deleted again because my translation would not be official.) Frankly, the Commons is not the place to make arrangements for wikiquote; I would suggest you ask at the appropriate village pump. Эlcobbola talk 14:37, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

OK, Thank you Elcobbola, but can you help me here? (Look, I left a message in appropriate village pump: The Game of Death) Smitersleon (talk) 15:26, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
