Construction guide for the flag of Trondheim
editDear Gutten på Hemsen, I am writing to you regarding the flag of Trondheim. While your vectorization is truly high‐quality, you did state that you could not find any construction guides. But while browsing through original drawings of Norwegian municipal heraldry, I found Trondheim's flag, complete with the dimensions marked out. Here is the link. I hope that you will find it useful. Sincerely,

- Wow, that's it! Thank you so much, I would have never known the rose is supposed to be off-center like that. I think I'll leave the rose itself pretty much as is, other than nudging it to the left of course. I'll also change the aspect ratio so it follows the drawing more closely. - @VulpesVulpes42: Page and file have been updated with the changes. Thanks again! —Gutten på Hemsen (talk) 05:49, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
The use of "Flag of Norway (ef2b2d for red & 002868 for blue).svg" in articles
editHi Gutten på Hemsen, I'm just wondering if you know why Flag of Norway (ef2b2d for red & 002868 for blue).svg has become the default miniature Norwegian flag in a ton of Norwegian, Swedish and international articles (as you can see by how many articles are using the file), and not the regular Flag of Norway.svg, and if this is how it's supposed to be? It's my understanding that the file was uploaded to Commons simply to be used as an example in the file talk of the regular flag before the color correction was made. Ved havet (talk) 00:37, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Ved havet: Hi! I've noticed that as well. After coming to an agreement about the colors to be used on Commons and other Wikimedia projects, one would think using the updated file would be the reasonable choice, yet for some reason, as you mention, plenty of articles seem to be using the file I uploaded exclusively for archival reasons instead of the de facto Flag_of_Norway.svg. I am not familiar with how one should go about swapping out one file for another in this many articles, though I suspect the administrators have some tools to do just that. I'll take another look and report back on my findings. Gutten på Hemsen (talk) 00:45, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
@Gutten på Hemsen: I see, thanks for clearing that up! I assume they do, redirecting it isn't an ideal solution in this case. It's interesting how this happened, I've just reverted the use of the flag in the Swedish article about the Norwegian flag, and it looks like an IP has been changing it out in multiple articles over there. Maybe this is our perpetrator. I'm not too familiar with Wikidata, but maybe it has something to do with the massive use of it as well. Apologies for forgetting to sign my last comment! Ved havet (talk) 00:55, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Ved havet: I think I found the reason for the massive use on Norwegian wikipedia. The template Mal:Flagg which is used every single time the flag is necessary (which is a lot!) was using the file. I've changed it to the proper version, so let's see if the use of the wrong file doesn't quickly fall in scale! Gutten på Hemsen (talk) 01:03, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- User Løken made an edit to the template in January. So that supports my theory. Gutten på Hemsen (talk) 01:06, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
@Gutten på Hemsen: I see. Clearly Løken disagrees with the change, but his actions makes little sense to me when the regular file is used everywhere else outside that template. To revert back from the default should be what we debate, not if Norwegian Wikipedia should be aligned with the rest of Wikimedia, that's kind of a given. I guess that's a debate to be had over there. Ved havet (talk) 01:17, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Ved havet: Indeed. I've posted to their talk page on Norwegian Wikipedia. We'll see what the response will be. Gutten på Hemsen (talk) 01:19, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
@Gutten på Hemsen: I will just notify you that there's apparently been a short discussion about it a bit further up on Løken's discussion page. I'd argue though that a couple of people agreeing on not personally liking the change, on a users talk page, is not enough. They should have participated in the Commons discussion when alternatives were laid out and eventually agreed upon to not be reasonable, or initiated a public, local debate on noWP. Ved havet (talk) 01:31, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
They really did change a lot of templates. This discussion should be brought to Tinget, with the same arguments that were brought up here on Commons. Ved havet (talk) 01:34, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Ved havet: I agree. I think it is reasonable that Løken didn't want every single Norwegian flag on noWP changed over night, without input from Norwegian Wikipedians, though I would have appreciated a heads up about what kind of discussion would be necessary before committing to the change on there.
