Translation requests

Hello Muzammil, At the moment I am preparing Wiki Loves Monuments and to enable users to participate in their own language we try to translate some templates and system messages in as much as languages as possible. Hindi and Urdu are two the languages used in countries where Wiki Loves Monuments is in preparation, so I would like to ask if you perhaps can translate some lines for me?

• Hindi: For Hindi I need a translation of the following line referring to Template:ASI Monument and also the other lines below:
  • To translate: ASI identifier (SL.no.)
  • To translate: Monument ID
  • And a translation of this template: Template:Upload campaign header Wiki Loves Monuments no contest
• Urdu: For Urdu the lines bewlo need a translation:
  1. Template:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 (used on files to mark they are uploaded during the contest)
     • To translate: This image was uploaded as part of Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.
  2. Template:Upload campaign header Wiki Loves Monuments August (used above the upload wizard saying that the picture contest has not started yet)
     • To translate: Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 has not started yet.
     • To translate: Wiki Loves Monuments will start in September. You may still share your images, but they will not be eligible for the competition.
  3. Template:Upload campaign header Wiki Loves Monuments finished (used above the upload wizard saying that the picture contest is over)
     • To translate: Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 is closed.
     • To translate: You may still share your images, but they will not be part of the competition.
  4. Template:Upload campaign header Wiki Loves Monuments no contest (used above the upload wizard of a country which does not participate)
     • To translate: This country does not participate this year in Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.
     • To translate: You are welcome to upload pictures with this upload wizard, but they will not be part of the photo competition.
  5. Template:Upload campaign use Wiki Loves Monuments (used after someone has uploaded a file)
     • To translate: Thank you for submitting your photos to Wiki Loves Monuments.
     • To translate: Our volunteers will add photos to the relevant articles and lists.
  6. For a label above a field where uploaders can enter the (unique) identifier (code) of a monument:
     • To translate: Monument ID
  7. For above the upload wizard during September:
     • To translate: Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 Pakistan Upload Wizard.
     • To translate: Website of the contest
     • To translate: Other countries

When I was preparing to link to the original JPEG version of the file, I discovered that it had been renamed in under 11 minutes! Category:Incomplete media renaming requests

Hi there,

There are a number of images in Category:Incomplete media renaming requests that have rename requests that seem reasonable to me, but I don't know enough about the subject. Given your user name and language profile I was wondering if you might be in a better position to deal with them? The two competing interests that I see are: the need to keep them harmonised as they are from a book vs. detailed titles that describe the image. Hi,

I've renamed one of the files based on the depiction as well as sources such as 1, 2, etc.

There is only one reason why would not like to go further - the rename requester appears to be suckpuppet of indeffed users such as Sridhar1000, Saleem100, Goldduck58,etc, and also probably the uploader of these files. Muzammil (talk) 16:48, 13 August 2013 (UTC).

Not sure how I ended up in this discussion. It looks like the icons in question are  (vuexKBHFe-BHF),  (udABZgl),  (GIPl),  (vBHF-uexBHF),  (GRZq),  (xAKRZu),  (xAKRZo), and  (lENDE). Generally, I agree with the rule that translation of filenames should not appear. This case however, is not a translation but transliteration of a street name (being the family name) with filename change into more descriptive. If a Russian speaking user chooses an English file name, I see no reason to object. However, if a Russian speaking user objects, I wuold consider reverting my change.

According to the Telugu File:ఎన్నికల_ప్రచార_సామగ్రి_దుకాణము.jpg filename, it seems to me to be to be a descriptive name, so no reasonable change into an English name is possible without translation: I will reject such change. If the Telugu name is a personal name or a city name, where transliteration only appears while changing the name to eg. an English one, I would not reject the change at once, consider it reasonable, but leave the decision to Telugu speaking people (as I am not able to verify correctness of such change).

Generally, I would avoid changing names (except competely meaningless names) that I do not understand. Ankry (talk)
