Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Map of Sweden Cities

Tack för alla fina kartor du gör! Du har satt din Map_of_Sweden_Cities_(polar_stereographic).png på en:urban areas in Sweden med en text som säger att kartan visar tätorter med över 20 000 invånare. Om det ska vara sant så behöver Boo, Falkenberg, Lidingö, Upplands Väsby, Vallentuna, Varberg och Åkersberga läggas till (och Märsta flyttas en bit norrut) medan Kiruna och Hudiksvall ska tas bort.
Har du möjlighet eller syfte att uppdatera kartan eller ska jag ändra bildtexten så att den stämmer? /Skrofler

Hmm, du har rätt, kartan är nog inte helt korrekt i förhållande till bildtexten / tätortsdefinitionen. Jag har förstås baserat kartan på en källa, men nu när du uppmärksammar mig så inser jag att den källan inte var den bästa (borde ha kollat med SCB istället). Jag ska se vad jag kan göra med att uppdatera kartan, men under tiden får du hemsk gärna ändra bildtexten så att den stämmer.

Detta skapar lite av ett kartografiskt problem, jag vill dels inte gärna ta bort Kiruna och Hudiksvall, dels blir det svårt att få plats med många nya tätorter alldeles invid Stockholm. Har du kanske någon idé om hur jag kan lösa det hela på ett konsekvent sätt? Koyos (talk) 20:44, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Czech Republic Spelling

Hello Koyos,

I just wanted to say that linking the images will be a bit difficult, once the name of the countries doesn't fit. In this image my country "CZECH REPUBLIC" is mispelled as "CHECH". I searched the internet and on the original map is the correct name (well, technically speaking Czech is not correct as well, but at least is it not that bad as being called Chech) so, please, replace the image for the new one.

"improving" images

Hi. Please don't change the visual aspect of the Swedish Coat of arms (e.g. File:Riksåklagaren vapen.svg). They are all part of a big series with a uniform set of colours and style. Cheers /Lokal_Profil 02:55, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

The new way of doing it is fine. just remember that the cc-by-sa license requires you to link to the original. And also you are not allowed to add a GFDL license to the images that are based on cc-by-sa images. See e.g. [1] /Lokal_Profil 16:26, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Ja, jag har funderat på det, men inte hunnit. Jag undersökte faktiskt designhistorien för stadsvapnet på Stockholms stadsarkiv, och har kollat lite efter historiska versioner av vapnet. Det visar sig att vapnets nuvarande utseende är resultatet av en kontinuerlig, gradvis genomförd designutveckling, där varje steg är ett "derivat" av en befintlig design. Den version som finns idag bygger på Karl-Erik Forsbergs version från 30-talet, som bygger på Yngve Bergs version från 1910, som i sin tur bygger på en version som användes under 1800-talet. Versionen från 1800-talet är i sin tur baserad på ett sigill från 1426. Sigillet från 1426 bygger på denna trästaty; , som man på den tiden trodde föreställde Sankt Erik. Ändringarna mellan varje iteration är mycket små, och är knappast originella nog att förnya upphovsrätten för designen. Dessutom så finns det gamla versioner av vapnet som är mycket snarlika den som jag har laddat upp, t ex på sockeln till statyn "Sankt Göran och Draken" , som står på Köpmantorget i Gamla Stan i Stockholm.

Kort sagt: det finns inte en chans att hävda upphovsrätt till bilder som liknar Stockholms stadsvapen. Koyos (talk) 21:00, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, dunkerqueenflandre, I'm glad you like the crowns! Drawing these crowns is a lot of work, but if I find the time in future i will certainly consider the heraldic imperial crown of Napoleon. Sveriges riksvapen: Lilla riksvapnet

Hej Koyos!
Skulle du kunna fixa denna () bilden? Jag har märkt att på varje av de tre kronorna på den blå bakgrunden finns ett litet fel. Felet är mellan den högra och mittersta "klövern", vid den lilla spetsen. Den vänstra backen uppåt är lite för brant på ett ställe. För att göra det lite enklare för dig har jag gjort en bild - GeMet (sv:wiki) där ringarna och pilarna visar felen. Dessa är:

• Guldfärgen på det andra (2:a) av sju fält har fel "gulhet".
• Skuggorna under pärlorna stämmer inte överäns med korsets och den blå knoppens skuggor.
• Fästerna på pärlorna ser inte likadana ut.
• Lila kant längs högersidan på det blå fältet.
• Lila kant längs vänstersidorna på de tre kronorna.
• Pärlorna längst ut på kanterna har ett hål i sig.

Om du inte kan se "felen", säg bara till :) Det kan dock hjälpa att titta på bilden i hög upplösning - GeMet (sv:wiki) 23:47, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

• Guldfärgen var tänkt att vara ljusare just där, men det är justerat i vilket fall.

• Lila kanter: det finns inga "lila kanter" på sidorna av det blåa fältet! Du ser fel, det kan vara din monitor som inte är perfekt, eller så är det en optisk effekt.
• Pärlorna: fixat.

Hej igen. Jag har faktiskt hittat lite fler "fel" på bilden. Här har jag ringat in de fel jag har hittat.

• I de två översta ringarna kan man se att "det gula bandet" inte fortsätter, det är blått mellan det gula och den svarta konturen. Samt att den svarta kantlinjen inte är lika bred på höger sida som på vänster.
  
• Längst ner på det blå klotet så möts inte metallbitarna på sidorna med metallbiten i mitten på samma vågräta linje.
  
• Bilden slutar precis när den sista pixeln av kronan slutar på högersidan. Det borde vara en liten marginal, som på vänstersidan av bilden.

När du gjort dessa ändringar kanske du borde lägga in denna nya kronan i dina andra verk. Hoppas detta inte är för mycket begärt, mvh – GeMet [gemet|ʇǝɯǝƃ] 16:04, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Ledsen att jag stör dig igen. Jag ville bara uppmärksamma dig på dessa småsakerna (som vanligt har jag laddat upp en fil med hjälpmarkeringar):

• De två översta ringarna: de ljusare färgerna verkar finnas i nederkant, mellan den mörkare färgen och den svarta konturen.
• Nere till vänster: skuggan från "blomman" överlappar den svarta konturen.
• Nere till höger: den svarta konturen verkar helt ha försvunnit (jämför med den andra sidan).

Hi, I find your "Inglehart-Welzel Cultural Map of the World" very interesting. I am crazy about Sweden and Norway. Do you have figures about immigration ? (number of migrants per year, origin, relation with crime increase (??) ...)

Thank you, Tom! I am a social scientist by training and I have taken a bit of interest in some of the topics you mention. I agree that the map is very interesting, personally I think it is probably the most informative picture on global cultural differences that i have ever seen.

Immigration to Sweden and Norway is huge (per capita); currently about 100 000 immigrants per year to Sweden. This is because Sweden has the worlds most generous immigration-laws in combination with one of the most generous welfare-states. In Sweden, the subject of immigration is extremely controversial and discussing it publicly is taboo. This is especially true for the relation between immigration and the increase in crime in recent years. Currently, there are waves of immigration to Scandinavia from Africa (Somalia) and from South-asia among other regions. The statistics you are looking for may be found at:

• oecd.org - look especially for their "Migration Outlook"-reports, very informative
• unhcr.org - The UN refugee authority
• migrationsverket.se - The Swedish Migration Board
• scb.se - Statistics Sweden

Road E45

Sorry to say this, but your maps of sweden contains major errors. The EU-road E45 is wrongly place in several places, like in Wermland and north of Östersund! It goes from Gothenburg to Karesuando in the north. It does not end in Skellefteå. (for more info about the direction of E45 .. look at www.hitta.se)

I would be glad if you fix this, or i will have to delete the links to them.

I'm sure you are right. The northernmost part of the road was not included in the source map that I used to draw the roads (some free map, from the CIA if I remember correctly). I'll try to fix this when I can. And you are very welcome to correct the maps yourself, if you can. I'm not sure about deleting the whole map because of this though, an svg-map can always be corrected later. Unless there are better, similar maps available, it is probably wiser to add a correctional note or something to the map description. Koyos (talk) 17:18, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Greater coat of arms of Sweden

Hi. I just noticed a minor error in the Greater coat of arms of Sweden drawn by Ssolbergj and you. The detail which is wrong is that in the Bernadotte shield the eagle is looking to the heraldic right (i.e. left). The blasoning however specifies that it should be looking to the (heraldic) left (i.e. right). Also there is a redundant eagle claw (path8397) underneath the shield. Arctic map

Hi!

May I ask you to create Arctic location map in projection similar to Location Antarctica.svg for Grey-green orthographic projections maps, as Arctic (orthographic projection).svg not good at all?

Hej! Kul att Vetenskapsradion uppskattar Wikipedia och Commons. Personligen så tror jag starkt på en mycket friare upphovsrätt, därför brukar jag licensiera mina illustrationer som allmän egendom (public domain) utan att kräva omnämnande som upphovsman. Men i det här fallet ser jag att bilden faktiskt har en CC-BY-SA licens, så SR borde uppge skapare och bildlicens, om de vill följa lagen. Tror dock inte att jag kommer maila.

Hello. The graph of violent crime per capita you provided for the Crime in Sweden page (Anmäld misshandel 1975-2006.svg) was removed from it. If you provide a source for the data, it will probably be added back. Could you provide it please?

Well, the source is already provided in the graphic as BRÅ (2008). Brå is Brottsförebyggande Rådet, the Swedish authority that is responsible for these statistics. The data comes from their main annual publication of crime statistics. This is the exact report: BRÅ (2008). Hej! Gällande din fina karta File:Rune stone density-km2-Sweden.svg: Mellannorrland är enbart markerat med rosa, men enligt sv:Lista över Medelpads runinskrifter och sv:Lista över Hälsinglands runinskrifter bör några kommuner ändra färg.

• 17 runinskrifter i Sundsvalls kommun, dvs den borde vara mörkröd
• 13 i Hudiksvalls kommun, dvs mörkröd.
• 4 i Söderhamns kommun, dvs organge.
• 2 i Ljusdals kommun, dvs orange.
• (1 Nordanstigs kommun, dvs rosa - korrekt.)
• (1 i Timrå kommun, dvs rosa - korrekt..)
• (1 i Östersunds kommun, dvs rosa - korrekt.)

Hej!

Kartan anger inte antalet per kommun, utan antal per kvadratmil (10 * 10 km2) per kommun. Det är inte jag som har sammanställt datat för kartan: uppgifterna kommer direkt från sv:Sveriges Nationalatlas. Så färgen beror alltså dels på antalet runstenar, dels på hur stor yta kommunen har. Vidare vet jag inte om en runsten enligt Sveriges Nationalatlas är samma sak som en runinskrift i andra förteckningar.

Om det stämmer att det finns 17 runstenar i Sundsvalls kommun så borde Nationalatlasens karta sannolikt uppdateras (jag beräknar det så här: Sundsvall = 27,46 km2 = 0,2746 kvadratmil: 17 / 0,2746 = 61,9 runinskrifter per kvadratmil, dvs mörkrött för Sundsvall).

Jag är ändå lite tveksam till att uppdatera kartan om inte Sveriges Nationalatlas gör en egen uppdatering först. Kanske finns det en uppdaterad version av Nationalatlasen?
