Request to use your imageEdit

Hi, I am working on a book on flow structures and would like to use your nice illustration form here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Florescein.jpg

Can you please grant permission and let me know exactly what image credit I should use? Thanks,

George

I only cropped the image, the original author is user:Bricksnite. He released this image with a CC BY license, meaning you can re-use it without asking his permission, but you need to credit him as the image author. Materialscientist (talk) 22:15, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Dhirubhai Ambani 2002 stamp of India.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Images of stampEdit

There are many stamps images from Indian post Website uploaded and are under review for {{GODL-India}} at Category:Unreviewed photos of GODL-India. Since almost all are derivative works there is no indication whether the original images are in the free license. I am not sure whether GOI holds copyright of these images as they have no mention anywhere. Even their copyright policy even doesn't seem updated. Please advise what should be done as per Commons licensing --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 07:40, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

I don't understand what do you mean by "derivative" here. Stamps are 2D objects, their photos can't be additionally copyrighted as derivative works. Materialscientist (talk) 07:46, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
The image above of a stamp of Ambani whose similar images can be found here. So it seems that the image is modified and made available in the stamp. Please correct me if anything wrong. Hoping for your guidance. --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 08:55, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
Right, this is how all stamps are made. In this case (Indian stamps), Indian Government had some agreement with the photographer to modify his work and release it as a stamp. We can't know specifics of that agreement, but we know that the Indian Government released this work without copyright notice. Materialscientist (talk) 10:28, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
So aren't they liable for deletion as per COM:PRP? --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 02:35, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
No. As I understand, Indian Government works have a license which is compatible with Wikimedia Commons. Materialscientist (talk) 05:51, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
Comment This was discussed on Template talk:GODL-India#Stamps of India. Nobody objected so far. Regards, Yann (talk) 06:04, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
Tiven2240: Actually Yann I did. Personally I have not been happy with Materialscientist's understanding that {{GODL-India}} applies to Indian stamps, especially considering the 1957 copyright act says 60 years copyright applies and that is what we have accepted until now. Also consider the statement from the Indian Post Office that commercial use requires permission as noted in this discussion Template talk:GODL-India#Stamps of India. Perhaps we really need to determine once and for all what the exact copyright status of Indian stamps is. Ww2censor (talk) 10:24, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
Yes, we need a definitive answer. Could we keep the discussion in own place please, i.e. on the template talk page? Thanks, Yann (talk) 10:29, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

Hello, you’ve uploaded Hans Baur 1950s.jpg. There is something wrong with it:

Do you want to fix it yourself? Otherwise I would do. — Speravir – 22:23, 4 May 2019 (UTC) … And the file is quite often used. I fear it has to be checked whether the 1950 time span is mentioned on the pages. — Speravir – 22:26, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

I can surely fix it, but I need a more reliable date - I doubt it is indeed 1925 - he looks older than 28 in that photo. Materialscientist (talk) 23:35, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
OK I noticed your changes. The site of the original publisher is, of course, even better, more reliable. — Speravir – 21:55, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

About photoEdit

Hi, thanks for reviewing the photo 사본 -46872819934 82c431fff4 o.jpg I uploaded and confirming that it came from Flickr with the right license. I just realized that I uploaded this photo without changing the file name and as such it has a terrible, unintelligible name. Could you possibly change this photo to something like Josh Frydenberg April 2019.jpg or something? I don't have the authority to change file names so I was hoping if you change it for me. Thank you in advance. --Daffy123 (talk) 10:48, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
