There is a terrible mistake about [Image:ThaluraniaGlaucopis200805DarioSanches.jpg] . The photo was in fact taken by Dario Sanches. "Chácara Antonio Wuo" is the place where the picture was taken.

Please don't delete this picture. It is a seriously candidate to featured picture.

Logo Thuraya - speedy deletion

Hi Mattbuck, I see you have deleted the Thuraya logo logo-white-hor.jpg because of copyright violations. I am aware that copyright problems are difficult and complicated, but I thought these logo could/can be used as the owner has published it on its "media kit" part of its website so press and related users can use the logo in combination with articles? Please clarify what the owner has to do to prevent deletion on wiki. See also: http://www.thuraya.com/content/thuraya-logo.html

User request deletion

Hello Mattbuck. I have a question about the following images:

You deleted them after I tagged them as missing source information. In the log you put User request. I can't recall what kind of images they were, but the uploader asked me on my talk page why the images were deleted since s/he provided the source of the images. Can you help me out with this? Please remind me what kind of pictures they were and why they were deleted before the usual one week wait time. Thanks --Kimse (talk) 03:01, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Please add welcome templates

Hello, and first of all: thanks for your work on identifying copyright violations and warning their uploaders.

Could I just ask that you please remember to add {{Welcome}} to the talk pages for users who don't already have it. I know it can feel a bit awkward to "welcome" copyright violators, but the template contains information that might help them stop violating the law. I know many administrators, myself included, do not feel very comfortable with blocking users that have not been given that information, so adding the template saves time because it allows serial offenders to be blocked sooner. LX (talk, contribs) 20:10, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I generally try to add welcome templates, guess I missed a few. Would be helpful if the damn bots would work properly - I had a guy create an account, and 4mins later I smacked him for uploading a derivative work.

Hi I was wondering if you could close Commons:Deletion requests/Image:05528.jpg since it's the same/similar situation as for Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Baldurvonschirach.jpg which you closed. Humm, actually I can't seem to find anything about admins not closing their own DR requests, although it makes sense to me it might just be something I've imagined. Also, regarding the first nomination. Could you also take a look at the following images as they are taken from the same website http://www.oas.org. Delete them if the same rule would apply here as well. Or do you think we should rather mark them as missing permission and require an OTRS approval?

BSD licensing for images is possible, if unusual, but there's even a whole category of such images here (Category:BSD_images). I can confirm that the upload on Wikipedia was definitely tagged as a BSD licensed image by the uploader (I'm an admin on en.wiki). As a result, i've removed your speedy tag. Cheers. Re: Flickr tags

Hey, good thing you caught that quickly. The general problem is it is not possible to prevent false taggings without missing some files needing review and a missed Flickr review is a serious issue. I've noticed a number of "self" licensed images clearly from Flickr, Image:David-greybeard-chimpanzee.JPG is a possible copyright violation at present (its licensed under cc-by-sa but apparently mis-attributed and incorrectly licensed, but I'm aware that a number of contributors post images both to here and Flickr, so I'm trying to separate out those "self" uploads for a second manual pass; not entirely successfully.

As for your images, they won't get affected further (now or in a future pass) as I've white-listed the files in your upload category.--Nilfanion (talk) 01:36, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Thankfully we are getting on top of it. Of the ~200,000 images linked to Flickr, 97% of them have been verified. And in the 5,000 I've got left, many are either derivative works with the license verified elsewhere on Commons or are one like yours. Its a long way from when I started the process off in 2006 :)--Nilfanion (talk) 02:01, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I'm not sure what to do about derivatives such as Image:Mcfly-all.jpg. If the image has a direct link to Flickr and not through a Commons-hosted version, clearly review would be necessary. However, I think that the license could be confirmed in some manner on derivatives too. The review process doesn't support derivatives, its always "This image....", but that's fixable, though a much less intrusive template would be better. Perhaps a   inline next to the link to Flickr?--Nilfanion (talk) 10:26, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

True, and the case I was worried about (where the Commons original was deleted) isn't important - if one is deleted so should the other! Just wish that derivatives were easier to detect...--Nilfanion (talk) 10:43, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Britons

Well, I'm displeased with your actions. I wasn't "distributing it as PD" - I listed the licences as requested by another user. It was a derivative work.

The image took months of negoiation to put together on the English Wikipedia and I think your actions were a breach of normal procedure (i.e. no warning to allow for minor corrections, no discussion, no request for clarification). You also didn't check that all uses had been removed, and your deletion now causes a confusion in the English Wikipedia.

I would like a speedy recreation - I don't have a hard copy so I hope there is one still on the servers (I really do!). Jhamez84 (talk) 17:09, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I managed to source the images again and put together something more clear we regards to licencing. I would stress again that it was a shock move that you made; had I done that on EN:WP (where I'm an admin), I'm sure there would have been outcry. Not to worry, all is restored. Jhamez84 (talk) 21:23, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Image:Betancourt, 2007.jpg

Hi there. You acted too swiftly for me to be able to react. Could you tell me how this image constitutes copyvio? I obtained it from he Wiki, where it was uploaded and licenced with cc-by-2.5 by its author and original Flickr uploader. I transferred conscientiously all the history and info to Commons at the time. What is wrong with the image or its documentation? Furthermore, it is the original image from which an excerpt is installed on the Commons (just the daughter, with the rest of the image cropped). Thank you for explaining. --Mareklug talk 17:38, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Commons Scope - Pdf and Djvu files

I have added some text dealing with these based on the discussion on the talk page. Users are by no means unanimous about which files should be allowed, and I have tried to follow the majority opinion. Thus, the suggestion is that if a Pdf or Djvu file is educationally useful even to a single other Wiki it should be kept. Would you like to comment before this page goes live? This would cat as

Ffestiniog Railway -- as owner
Welsh Highland Railway -- as what it is operating on
Caernarfon -- as to location shot is taken

and, if cats exist for engines

Prince -- as subject of photo

The more relevant cats the better.

As to my inital reason for the comment, take for example

Here you have removed Cat=FR, but actually left in the fact that it was taken on a Cat=Canon Powershot A20 ?????

--Keith (talk) 07:07, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
But how can you say Porthmadog implies the FR - does not the town have any other station?? (rhetorical q! Yes 2 current, NR & WHR(P) and 2 former's Port New (first) and Port New (second)). There is no justification for removing the entries. The category policy on main wiki uses same idea - all stations are Cat=FR, as are all other items. I see you also "created" a category for "Stations of the Ffestiniog Railway" which seems a bit of a waste (I dont see any similar cats for other lines). Any item related to the FR should be contained within the Cat=FR group

I am not denying the right to add the appropriate relevant station category, nor the multiples as you explain. I only complain on the grounds you have removed the basic category that is most commonly known to people. Ask me to name a station on the, say Bluebell line, or KESR, and even though I am interested in heritage rail, I couldn't tell you. Ask me to name 20 Heritage lines, and I could probably do a lot more. A picture may appear that is between stations, so what do you CAT as?? Ffestiniog Railway.

Again on the Loco side, making cats for the indiviual loco's may be deemed as "good", but I would suggest an additional general grouping category for "FR Locomotives" or possibly "F&WHR Locomotives" --Keith (talk) 12:06, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

- Village Pump - Agreed - since you probbly know the proc better, please initiate --Keith (talk) 12:11, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Restore

Can you toss Image:Sirhan3.jpg back online for a day and then re-delete it? Wikisource has different inclusion criteria than Commons; and I'd like to preserve the file itself. Much thanks. Sherurcij (talk) 22:08, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, snagged it. Sherurcij (talk) 22:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Virtual Ride

I am sorry, but with the FR's own wiki and other projects. I cannot spare the time, hence the similar comment made elsewhere --92.2.198.176 16:40, 13 August 2008 (UTC) Apologies - didnt realise not logged in -Keith (talk) 16:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
