Hi, I notice you are using a custom template on your image description pages. I thought I should mention a couple of possible problems with this. Using a template to add license info is problematic as automated tools will not correctly detect the licensing which will cause various problems. There is also a proposed policy that encourages people to put personal templates into their own user-space (ie as a sub-page of their user-page) rather than in the Template: space. These things are discussed at proposed template policy. Also the catscan tool will probably also not detect the presence of the {{WikiProject Birds}} template if it is only inserted by another template - this would affect the usefulness of the {{WikiProject Birds}} tag on those images as they would always show up as untagged.

You could solve some of these problems by using subst: to insert the contents of your template. I hope that makes sense, please ask me if any of this doesn't make sense. Keep the good photographs coming! :-) --Tony Wills 22:19, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think your changes solve all the problems I mentioned and still give you the flexibility to change your template contents for all your images - well done :-).

To use subst: you would have simply inserted {{subst:User:Mindaugas Urbonas/MindBird ... instead of {{User:Mindaugas Urbonas/MindBird ... on each page. This would have expanded the contents of your template onto that page, so that when you go back to edit the page you no longer find your template reference, but all the normal wiki codes. (I have used it on your example, you can 'undo' it if you like :-)

Your solution of separating out the standard license template and wikiproject template works fine. You can put

[[Category:Ciconia ciconia]]
== Licensing ==
{{User:Mindaugas Urbonas/MindLicen}}

parts back into your template as categories work fine from templates and the proposed policy is only worried about problems with having standard license templates obscured by being in a private template, so I think your MindLicen template is ok to be included in the MindBird template.

I can see that some people might have trouble editing your image descriptions (of course anyone can come along and edit it, as it is no longer 'yours' :-), and they may at a later date subst: your template so they can understand what it is doing. --Tony Wills 21:33, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot for a really clear explanation. Well, I tried to sum up 3 templates to one: User:Mindaugas Urbonas/MindBird. Now I use such template in my photo description:
