Image Tagging Image:Anatoli Filipchenko.jpg
edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Anatoli Filipchenko.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Image deletion warning | Images from openDemocracy on Flickr have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry. If you created these images, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. |

- What's the current status of the deletion request? It's been open since the third week of January 2009. The file for the retake of the oath is used currently in the Wikipedia:Inauguration of Barack Obama article. The article is now undergoing a FA review, and the status of the file has become an issue. Lwalt (talk) 00:50, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
- Looking at the discussion, there was a universal decision to keep. --Philip Stevens (talk) 05:19, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:10, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Obama and Cameron
editThis pic from flickr here has the comment there ... This official White House photograph is being made available only for publication by news organizations and/or for personal use printing by the subject(s) of the photograph. The photograph may not be manipulated in any way and may not be used in commercial or political materials, advertisements, emails, products, promotions that in any way suggests approval or endorsement of the President, the First Family, or the White House.
This is unclear to me that this pic is correct for commons, please comment, thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 23:42, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- I think it is correct for Commons. On its Flickr page, it says the image is a United States Government Work. This means "it is not subject to copyright in the United States and there are no copyright restrictions on reproduction". I am curious where it says it is only for news organisations and personal use, or where it says the photograph may not be manipulated (although I have not changed the image). Also, although it doesn't automatically mean the image is the correct for Commons, most images of Pres. Obama are from Flickr with the same copyright status (see Category:Barack Obama in 2009 and Category:Barack Obama in 2010). Thanks! --Philip Stevens (talk) 06:54, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
I think this needs discussion , do you know the best place to open a discussion here at commons? Off2riorob (talk) 11:31, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Falkland Islands constituency maps
editHi Philip. Would you mind if I uploaded new versions of File:Stanley (constituency).svg and File:Camp (constituency).svg to show the correct constituency boundary (a 3.5-mile circle around Christ Church Cathedral)? I have added sources for that definition to the enWP articles. - Htonl (talk) 18:11, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Htonl: Go for it! Happy for you to correct. --Philip Stevens (talk) 08:11, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! I have done so. - Htonl (talk) 21:34, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
