Tip: Categorizing images edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 18:45, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

File:Central Europe 5th Century.jpg edit
I am impressed by your image "Central Europe 5th Century.jpg". Do you have, perchance, a prototype with just the geography and coloured areas but without the tribal names?
A nameless version of your map could allow tribal names to be given in any given language. An editor could add names to the map (with links) by using a template. Less sophisticatedly, an editor wanting a language-specific map could simply copy the nameless version, add the names himself and upload.
If you have no other version immediately to hand, don't worry; it's only if you have one.
Thanks. Hogweard (talk) 22:13, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Excellent! That is a splendid map - thank you. I will see if I can develop a template around it for adding names in another language. Hogweard (talk) 13:50, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, I would like to point out that some of the names that appear in the map in Latin are wrong. the Latin for Saxons and Burgundians are Saxones and Burgundiones (both in the plural), whereas in your map they appear with an -i ending, which is wrong. Could that be changed?--Xaverius (talk) 23:59, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
Greetings, Varoon Arya!
I wanted to thank you for this wonderful map. It's clarified for me several questions I'd had regarding which tribes were where. Am I correct in assuming that most all of these are Germanic tribes? And do you happen to know where the Celts came from? (Another question I've had for a long time.)
Thank you for your super, informative work.
Possible Correction edit
On the graphic for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biogeographic_ancestry, .93 should be .093 I think.
Your account will be renamed edit
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Varoon Arya. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Varoon Arya~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
