Mike Prince photos from Flickr

Hi Vis - last year you created [Category:Turdus philomelos in India] and added several photos by Mike Prince to it. Unfortunately this is an error - although he is based in India, he travels widely, and these photos were actually taken in England. The photo locations are given in the Flickr tags; it is important to check these individually with Mike Prince's photos. Can you remember if you made any other similar categories that will need checking? Thanks! :-) MPF (talk) 16:28, 28 March 2023 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Hi there Vis_M, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for correcting my many mistakes in " Category:Les kolas africains - Heckel 1893 ". Forgot about the need for the 01, 02 etc numbering for proper order (doh); and didn't realise that " -- " had changed to " — " for some (but not all (?)) occurrences while uploading (despite that I did a copy-paste and never retouched that bit afterwards), and that also disturbs the image order. Will try to pay more attention in future. To one of the too often unsung ants that operate in here, many thanks. Pueblo89 (talk) 17:27, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

We are excited again to let you know that, Wiki Loves Monuments, the largest photography competition of the world, will take place for the 14th time this year. And guess what! India is going to participate in the event again this year from September 1 to September 30, 2023. You might remember this competition as you had participated in one of its previous editions. We would be very delighted to see you take part in the competition again, help record and digitally document our monuments for future generations and get a chance to win exciting prizes!!!

in preparation of the 2023 board election of our group, we invite you to take a look at the following page:

The timeline for the 2023 election will be

  • September 15 – September 30: Applications for the election committee
  • October 1 – October 9: Vote for election committee (ideally comprised of three members)
  • October 10: Election committee starts work
  • October 20 – November 9: Nomination phase for candidacies
  • November 10 – December 10: Elections
  • December 15: Results announced

In the first step we ask you to be part of the election committe. Please add your name on the Election Page.

Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you

Dear fellow Commons photographer,

I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.

At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.

Change word to file names in all the series?

Hi Vis M, many thanks for implementing the change name to File:Bardea Beltza - Irudiak (1).jpg and the following two numbers in the series. The wrong word in the whole series appears in the next files up to the file name ending with 14. Would it be possible to make the same change to these file names without individual request? @Shkuru Afshar: Hi, I see that the "Melbourne Exhibition Centre"[1] and "Melbourne Convention Centre"[2] are two distinct entities within the "Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre". So, is it better to have separate categories for each and create a new Category:Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to act as parent category? What do you think?
