Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Copyrighted images
editPlease stop uploading copyrighted images or we will have to block you. Take a look at Commons:Licensing. Regards. --Dodo 18:01, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Image licensing
editYou appear to be uploading a whole bunch of images without selecting a licensing category describing their copyright status. Wikimedia Commons is only for public domain or freely licensed images, and the ones you are uploading appear to be copyrighted, as are most images taken from random websites and publications. Image Tagging Image:Kelly_Clarkson_-_Since_U_Been_Gone.jpg
edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Kelly_Clarkson_-_Since_U_Been_Gone.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Warning
editYou are uploading files without a sufficient source information : Google is not a valid source : you must give the name of the author of the pictures and the license he or she gives to the pictures. Thoses files will certainely be deleted shortly. Peter17 08:07, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Blocked

Do not blank your user talk page
editAs explained on Commons:Talk page guidelines, "actively erasing personal messages without replying (if a reply would be appropriate or polite) will probably be interpreted as hostile. In the past, this kind of behavior has been viewed as uncivil, and this can become an issue in arbitration or other formal proceedings."
The notices that have been placed on your user talk page are appropriate and relevant. Your persistent blanking of the messages seem to indicate that you do not take the messages seriously or that you wish to erase the record of your infractions.
Your ability to edit your own user talk page despite being blocked is a privilege. The idea is that you may use this privilege to ask questions about the block or contest it.
If you continue to abuse this privilege to defiantly blank your user talk page, you may lose this privilege so that your user talk page may be locked for editing, and existing blocks may be extended if you continue to make it clear that you have no intention to respect Commons' policies and guidelines.
Unblock request
editplease unblock me from editing! im sorry i was bad and i promise it wont happen again!
but i have one question:
why do i always get blocked for uploading pictures?
—the preceding unsigned comment is by Xcv47x (talk • contribs) 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- How can you promise that "it won't happen again" if you claim not to understand what "it" is and why you've been blocked in the first place? The reason you've been blocked is clearly and repeatedly explained in the messages which you blanked once again, right after I specifically told you not to do so.
- The fact that you claim not to understand why you've been blocked indicates to me that the risk that you would continue to violate copyright laws and Commons policy if you were unblocked is substantial. I will therefore not grant your request to be unblocked. On the contrary, your belligerent removal of appropriate warnings from your user talk page mean I would be more easily compelled to extend the block than to remove it. —LX (talk, contribs) 19:32, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
editHello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Xcv47x. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Xcv47x~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
Community Liaison, Wikimedia Foundation
