File:Agent 327 - Operation Barbershop-movie poster alternate.jpgEdit

Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content. Fair use laws vary from country to country, and uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules.

Also, fair use is only applicable in a few limited contexts. The use of a media file in one context may be considered fair use, while the use of the same file in another context may constitute copyright violation. In particular, fair use does not extend to the collection and distribution of media files in a media database such as Commons. Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions.

Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally to projects which allow this.

Yours sincerely, Patrick Rogel (talk) 22:56, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time and having a look at the description and source.
It is a free image because it was created alongside the open movie Agent 327: Operation Barbershop released by the Blender Foundation. If you had a look at the source you can even see the licence yourself.

Regarding: Derivative works of 2D art in the USAEdit

Hello D-Kuru, My photos of the murals should fall under "fair use" in the U.S., due to their educational purpose to document the Clarion Alley (San Francisco) category in the Commons. Since they're part of the historical record of the Alley, and not for use for any commercial purposes, they should be fine for the Commons. Thanks for your note. --Utilizer (talk) 04:12, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

The problem is that Wikimedia Commons does not allow fair use (see Commons:Fair use). Only media files are allowed on Commons which are licenced under a free licence. That means that you have to be allowed to modify them and have to be able to use them not only, but also for commercial purposes. Fair use images are allowed on some language variants of Wikipedia though. So you have to upload them where you want to use them. --D-Kuru (talk) 09:34, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

Your Photo Inside Ming TombEdit

Hello, I just want to inform you that I have used your good photo in my video/ vlog. I make vlog as a hobby. You can watch in youtube yy4g7gNQLlo Thank you kindly for sharing your photo.

Best Regards, S. Toha Stef Toha (talk) 10:33, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

@Stef Toha
Thank you for your note! I really appreciate when people let me know when they use an image I uploaded so that I see that the work on Wikimedia Commons is worth the time.
I guess you are talking about Peking14.jpg at 5:10. For a moment I was worried that you may have mistaken my work (as uploader) and attributed me instead of the author. After watching your video - which was really interesting for me since I visited the Ming Tombs back in 2007 - I saw that you did not make that mistake.
Just for educational purpose: The file is dual licenced under the GNU Free Documentation License Version 1.2 or later (GFDL 1.2+) and under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 licence (CC-BY-SA-3.0). The licence terms of both licences require that the author is attributed (  check) and that the result is shared under the same licence conditions (a little bit hard for a video with multiple images). GFDL 1.2+ also requires to include a copy of the full licence text with every usage (links are fine here). CC-BY-SA-3.0 requires to attribute the licence as well ("CC-BY-SA-3.0" is enough here). So no matter which licence you choose you would have to include a little bit more licence information to be fully correct.
Whenever I use an image from Commons in a YouTube video, I link the image and the licence in the decription page so that everyone who wants to go to the image page or wants to know more about the licence they have a direct way to do so. But it's up to you how you do it.
Again, thanks for the note! --D-Kuru (talk) 09:00, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

PS2Edit

Hi, please only create disambiguation pages in category namespace, not in gallery namespace. Jcb (talk) 22:41, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

@Jcb:
Thanks for the note.
1) If it is a valid disambiguation page, why do you delete it instead of moving it? It is just more work for other users.
2) Please check for linked pages.
If redirects should be deleted as well, you are free to do it.
--D-Kuru (talk) 16:57, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
Yes, cross namespace redirects should be deleted as well, reason G2. I updated one file that fell into the disambiguation category: File:PS2 Modbo Chip Install.jpg. I hope I chose the right one. Everything should be fine now as far as I can see. Jcb (talk) 17:05, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
