Regarding the language icon edit

You state that this nullifies CC-BY-SA on File:Language icon.svg:

Semi-Noncommercial. You may not use this work as a central element (or one of the core elements) for commercial purposes; Such as a design on a tshirt, on a book cover etc unless you attribute to the author. On the other hand you can use freely in your websites without attribution.

It does not, it extends the permission to CC-ND without BY requirements. CFCF (talk) 22:20, 4 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

You're right that the "Semi-noncommercial" is more generous than CC-ND. However, the CC-ND and this Language Icon license are incompatible with CC-BY-SA, which is not the same as CC-ND. Uploading to Wikimedia Commons requires that the material be usable for commercial purposes, and here we have a license with a significant restriction on commercial use. The problem is that many people are assuming that the license is the CC-BY-SA, the only CC license some Wikipedians see, and that's not the license in use here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dwheeler (talk • contribs) 00:45, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I just realized this is the wrong process. The license for this icon forbids some commercial use, and thus is a candidate for speedy deletion instead. I'll use the regular deletion process, though, so that there will be more time for people to discuss it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dwheeler (talk • contribs) 01:03, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

It gives additional rights, such as the right to forego BY for NC ventures, but the file is licensed under CC-BY-SA Unported 3.0 CFCF (talk) 08:15, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'm pretty certain the file is *NOT* released under CC-BY-SA-3.0. What is the evidence for this? I have found no evidence for this, and I've been looking. I'd be very relieved if it's under the CC-BY-SA, but every source I've tracked down turns out to be a misunderstanding. Dwheeler (talk) 18:36, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
