Overcategorization

edit

Hi:

Thanks for the photos but please do not make mass uploadings with all the same categories, use the most precise sub-category related to each photos. Furthermore, do not put multiple categories that end up to be subset of each others. For instance Category:Khairpur District is a subset of Category:Sindh wihidi is itself in Category:Pakistan, only use the first category.

Thanks for informing me about this. I just thought I have to add all the categories,so,I added those all categories. Next time I will be careful. FAAHS (talk) 14:53, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Faahs, you have seen that categories work a bit differently than you thought. Each single category needs to be created separately and is told "this page is a subcategory of this other page". So, like I created Category:Mothparja with just the text "[[Category:Villages in Sindh]]"). That made the category appear in this list here. Once you categorize something, it will then be displayed in the parent category. You created two more subcategories already (Category:Channa Mohala), now please categorize some images with it and refresh the Channa Mohala category to see them displayed.
It is also better to not use too many categories. In the case of a single village and just 20 or 30 photos, all of that can be placed in just a single category. At some point, maybe, there are 10 or 15 photos of the mosque, and they deserve a new sub-category. And we have a category for all photos of the village, and one for the mosque. And at a later point, we have a category for all the many photos of the cemetary, and one category for all the shops and businesses, and one for all the many photos of the agriculture of the place. And so on.
Just look at this village in Hungary: there are two sub-categories for the railway station and for one special house, but it is two sub-categories too many. The three photos should also be placed in the village category, in my opinion, until there are many more photos that require a new category.
I wish you all the best, --Enyavar (talk) 13:02, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
PS I created Category:Agriculture of Mothparja. And here is another tip: Be careful and try to upload the best pictures you can produce, of each motif, not just all photos of a shoot. Several of that evening walk are shaky mobile photos where we can't see a lot. #28 shows just an empty field in the darkness. You had #32 which is better than #22, so why upload both? Yes, not everyone is a master photographer, but just compare the images to the right of my comment. If I wanted to visit a scenic village in Sindh only based on these two photos, I'd chose Bado. ;-) --Enyavar (talk) 13:39, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
