Tip: Categorizing images edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]][[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

- Exactly Any image could be useful, but these are not necessary to understand the topics in question (I'm nominating them for deletion now.) See w:File:Tianasquare.jpg--that image is itself historically significant and you cannot possibly find a non-free equivalent, so you can rationalize having that on Wikipedia. That second example you gave from The Office is just a picture of Steve Carrell talking. - That's right Almost every screenshot on Wikipedia is invalid--most of them don't offer anything new and meaningful. For instance, see most episodes of 30 Rock where a non-free image was just just to adorn an infobox, but not provide critical information. Note that en:Live Show has a justified one though--that picture illustrates something about how the episode is similar to SNL and it identifies a number of guest stars who all appeared together in this scene. Some language editions of Wikipedia don't allow any non-free media. Compare en:ETHWHT with es:Everything That Happens Will Happen Today--the latter doesn't include the album cover since it's non-free media. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 00:51, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
